Seven sizzling Holiday Offers for September 2019 Sun Spots for pre-school families

If – and it’s a big if – you’re not yet tied to school holidays, September is the month to get some summer sun in the Northern Hemisphere. If you are, click away now; if you’re not, you’re in for a treat. The seas are warmer than earlier in the year, the peak holiday crowds have gone home and you’re more likely to find a bargain hotel room or villa than in July or August.

Here are some of our favourite spots in Europe for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers and some great holiday offers (it’s hard to narrow the selection down!), we’d love to hear what yours are in the comments below.

Gaynor Pickard

1) The foodie one: Sani Resort, Halkidiki, Greece

A foodie place for toddlers? Well, yes – when that food comes courtesy of Annabel Karmel, the celebrity children’s nutritionist, who’s created the children’s menus at Sani Resort in Halkidiki, Greece.

Of the resort’s five hotels, Sani Club is our pick. Check into one of its one- or two-bedroom family suites for direct pool or beach access, raid the extensive inflatable and beach toys shack, and take advantage of the Babewatch service (staff will watch your kids on the beach while you take a break) and full-time crèche.

For refreshment, flag down the complimentary ice cream truck that trundles around resort or tuck into the vegan-friendly menus. First time away with little ones? Take advantage of the travel tips and advice from respected baby consultant Carol Mae.

B&B rooms start from £139 a night for a double (with one baby) and  from £169 for a family room for four

The staycation one: Fowey Hall Hotel, Cornwall, England

With young kids in tow, dreamy lie-ins are a distant memory. Which is why we love the Mary Poppins Sunday service offered by Fowey Hall Hotel – children are whisked off to breakfast by a friendly nanny, leaving parents to snuggle back under the duvet with coffee and papers.

Other thoughtful touches include two hours free childcare every day in the Four Bears Den, children’s meals served all day, a complimentary baby listening service, and all the necessary toddler paraphernalia available to borrow. The pretty Cornish harbour town of Fowey is on your doorstep – discover its sandy coves or take a trip on the little Fowey-Mevagissey ferry.

B&B rooms start from £139 a night for a double (with one baby), from £169 for a family room for four

The good value one: Sirenis Club Aura, San Antonio Bay, Ibiza

For simple sun, fun and endless water play, book a room at the great value Sirenis Club Aura. Young kids will love the two shallow pools next to the main pool, plus there’s free entry to the neighbouring water park (complete with a pirate-themed splash zone for little ones) and the sandy Port des Torrent beach is just a two-minute walk away (okay, five with toddlers).

In the early evenings, expect mini discos and shows, and there’s a dedicated children’s buffet serving plenty of crowd-pleasers at every meal.

Sirenis Club is popular for its valued pack Holiday Offers through out the year. But this September 2019 they are offering you even better deals for the parents with young children.

Seven nights all-inclusive starts from £491pp, based on three sharing a one-bedroom family room from 20 September, including flights from Birmingham

The idyllic one: Virginia A, Rosia, Siena, Tuscany, Italy

Soak up the golden sun of Tuscany and views of nearby Siena at the ancient hilltop Montestigliano farming estate. Of the various apartments and houses to rent here, Virginia A is our choice – half of a farmhouse, it faces south down its own lawned garden and has airy rooms and terracotta-tiled floors; with two bedrooms it’s perfect for small families, or can be rented with neighbouring Virginia B for a larger group of eight.

Young kids will love exploring the sprawling estate, making friends with their estate neighbours, and splashing in the family pool (as opposed to the adult-only quiet pool); for parents, the draw is the local knowledge and experience of Invitation to Tuscany’s owner, Dan – he grew up in Tuscany in the late 70s/early 80s and has been bringing his own kids here since they were little

Seven nights at Virginia A is £1,019, sleeping four

5) The active one: San Lucianu Beach Resort, Bastia, Corsica, France

Mark Warner has built a solid reputation for dependable family holidays, and rightly so – especially if your children are over two, as childcare is free, including in the evenings (it’s extra for under-twos), leaving you free to indulge in as many watersports at this beach-front resort as you wish. If you are looking into Best Holiday Offers where you can enjoy sun and watersports, you should not miss this offer.

Tear yourself away from the activities and take the family to a beautiful local waterfall or potter around Bastia’s old harbour – Corsica is a fantastic treasure trove of delights, mixing the best of French and Italian culture. Or simply make sandcastles on the endless, gentle east-coast beaches, or head into the hills behind the resort – Corsica has it all.

Plan your late sun getaway this September or October at San Lucianu Beach Resort with me and save £100pp for 7 nights and £200pp for 14 nights. Lead-in prices from *£529.00 per adult based on the 15th of September.

The eco one: Costa Navarino, Messinia, Greece

Costa Navarino is a pretty special place. Swanky and smart, it’s also sustainable, eco-friendly, and family-friendly. The resort, built by local shipping magnate Vassilis Constantakopoulos and his family, is a sprawling but intimate mix of hotels, villas, pools, restaurants, waterpark, open-air cinema and so much more, on the undeveloped coast of Messinia. – think wide, open, un-crowded beaches fringed with olive groves.

In September, with a young family, we’d plump for a stay in the Westin, with its spacious family rooms and suites, some with private infinity pools, and Cocoon crèche and SandCastle kids club that offers messy play, sculpting, sports, history, cookery classes and more.

Eco credentials are everywhere, from the resort building one of Greece’s largest solar parks which provides more than enough electricity for Costa Navarino and feeds back into the national grid, to guests being asked to leave the beach by 6pm so the region’s loggerhead turtles can continue to dig their nests and lay their eggs, which they do after dark.

Plan your late sun getaway this September or October at Costa Navarino with me. From £2,466.00 for 2 adults and 1 child of 4 B&B Infinity room.  From 21-28th September Resort/garden view with private pool

Children’s Wellbeing | Kids these days – they’ve got it made – or have they?

I’m a primary school teacher and I’m a mum to a beautiful, bright and bubbly six-year-old. I witness the ups and downs of wellbeing in children every day. Every parent faces the same dilemma – how to ensure the wellbeing of our children – particularly from a mental health perspective in a world that is more pressured than ever in more ways than one.

Anyone who fancies themselves a bit of a sleuth. If you’re an armchair detective and work out “whodunnit” before Poirot even twiddled his moustache or love watching real crime documentaries then this CSI Experience in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire is for you. Vouchers don’t have to be bought in pairs but I would say that to get the most out of the experience you’d be best off going with likeminded, crime-fighting friend.

REVIEW | Kelham Island Food Tour in “The Shoreditch of the North” – Sheffield

If you love food and don’t know Sheffield very well then the Kelham Island Food Tour could be the one for you. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon, filled with many tasty delights whilst discovering new places around the much loved industrial part of town. The first time I ventured away from my city-centre haunts was shortly after finishing uni, when we discovered the Fat Cat pub and (more importantly) £2 pints of ale. It dumbfounded us that we’d never even heard of this part of town, so finding such an amazing place to drink after four years living in Sheffield was quite a late discovery!
