My Favourite Places to Dine al fresco in Kent

By Kirsty Lavender – 20th June 2020

There’s nothing quite like dining outside on a warm sunny day or evening to make you feel just like you are away on holiday and seeing as we’re all stuck here, for the time being, I’m sure we could all do with feeling like that right now!

I have chosen some of my favourite places you can book a table right now, where you can gather with 5 of your favourite people, raise a toast and dine al fresco in Kent. Expect delicious food, amazing views views and good times – warm weather not guaranteed!

The Lobster Shack

Location: Whitstable

Cuisine: Seafood

Delicious fresh seafood right next to the sea, what could be better? For me, it’s the fact that I got married right here too! My top place to dine al fresco in Kent!

As you’re in Whitstable you must try the local oysters (although my favourite is always the mussels!) Time your visit with a beautiful Whitstable sunset. and a walk along the beach after. If this isn’t your thing they have recently installed a BBQ shack and are also serving cocktails, all easily ordered on their app.

If you want to grab your oysters to go? Head to the Oyster shack, bring your picnic blanket and find a spot on the beach.

Location: Broadstairs, Canterbury, Faversham

Cuisine: Italian

This has to be one of my favourite restaurants in Kent and with three in the county you can take your pick, with each offering outdoor dining. My personal favourite is the Faversham location although the most stunning views are in Broadstairs. Whichever you choose expect delicious pizza or pasta paired with a gorgeous bottle of wine. A great choice if you are looking for somewhere romantic to dine al fresco in Kent.

Sands Hotel

Location: Margate

Cuisine: Modern European, afternoon tea

Delicious food with fantastic service in a gorgeous setting, dining here feels like a real treat! The restaurant balcony offers gorgeous views of pretty Margate Sands and is the perfect spot to enjoy afternoon tea and watch the world go by! Fancy making a weekend of it? Why not book a room in the equally beautiful hotel rooms.

Check out Melt Gelato below for some amazing ice creams, there’s a great range of flavours including vegan ones. Enjoy them on the beach.

Grove Ferry

Location: Canterbury

Cuisine: Traditional pub food

Another of my favourite places to wine or dine al fresco is here. We like to grab a glass of wine (or two) and sit alongside the River Stour watching paddle boarders and kayakers float lazily past. This is a great location for a walk in the countryside after your meal.

Check their website for special offers and dates for live music.

Royal Albion Hotel

Location: Broadstairs

Cuisine: Pub grub with a twist

A great choice if you are looking for a family friendly restaurant to dine al fresco in Kent. This is a great spot for people watching and sits above Viking Bay in Broadstairs. Think traditional pub food with some great vegan options such as a poke bowl with beetroot falafels.

Bookings are not currently being taken and although there is plenty of outdoor seating try to avoid busy periods.

The Yard

Location: Faversham

Cuisine: Whole food kitchen serving fresh, local & seasonal food

Tucked away in a Faversham side street, you’ll find The Yard. Think fresh, seasonal food such as salads, burgers and amazing platters with a good selection of vegetarian options in a cute little garden. Head along on a Thursday or Friday evening for wine, beers and amazing cocktails!
