RESTAURANT RECOMMENDATION | Tomahawk Steakhouse, Husthwaite

Setting the Scene:

Tomahawk Steakhouse offers the finest Himalayan salt dry aged steaks, Wagu and other local meat, delicious sea food, chicken dishes and a range of enjoyable vegetarian options. Perfecting the art of creating mouth-watering and specialist steak dishes, they have an extensive menu with everyone in mind and with plenty to choose from.

Tomahawk Steakhouse pride themselves on being “The Ultimate Carnivore Experience” offering customers the choice of 8oz or 10oz fillet and rump, sirloin, rib eye, right up to a 36-38oz Tomahawk. Perfect for sharing…or not!

Having rolled out a few venues in Yarm, Potto & Darlington offering variety in a range of distinctly different locations, we are eager to try them all. We have previously tried the sister restaurant in Potto and were intrigued to find out whether Husthwaite would meet our very high expectations of the Potto restaurant.

Husthwaite sits in a more relaxed and rural location in a stunning village between Easingwold and Thirsk, providing luxury boutique accommodation if you want to make a night of it. We arrived early for our 6pm booking and made our way to the bar area, we were greeted by a cheerful waiter who took our drinks order and insisted that he would bring our cocktails over to us. I ordered my favourite – the pornstar martini and my fiancé ordered the Hugo. The Hugo was amazing, definitely one for the gin lovers. Served with prosecco and complemented with cucumber, it was instantly refreshing and packed full of flavour. We were glad we were able to sample a couple of the cocktails before sitting down to our table to eat.

We were shown to a nice cosy table in the corner of the restaurant and decided what we wanted to eat. The décor in the restaurant is lovely and modern complete with colourful seating and furnishings. I really liked the exposed brick work and timber, which definitely added to the steakhouse theme along with life-sized cows at the entrance of the building.

Tables were dressed with candles and a small vase of flowers which I thought was a nice touch, and were nicely spaced out so you weren’t sitting on top of the next family. The atmosphere was fairly quiet, but at 6pm you probably don’t expect it to be that busy just yet. There were a couple of occupied tables with families around the restaurant which made for a nice atmosphere.

I ordered the sirloin steak, cooked medium rare with sides of beef dripping chips and onion rings and Pip ordered the rib eye steak cooked rare with sweet potato chips and the bacon and cream peas. The food was cooked beautifully to our liking and they definitely achieved the perfect steak.

Our steaks were every bit juicy, lean and well marbled. The portions were very generous though, but we still had some room left for dessert. We decided on sharing the Tomahawk Bombe, which is quite possibly one of the most delicious puddings I have ever tasted. Definitely one to be shared due its richness, but it is every bit amazing! The Tomahawk Bombe is a melting chocolate dessert with a honeycomb and ice cream centre, which is then toasted with marshmallow and a hot salted caramel sauce. It really is simply delicious!

We shared a bottle of merlot, which was velvety and full flavoured. This complemented the delicious steaks perfectly. All in all the total bill came to around £80, which is pretty standard for 2 people eating out, especially with a bottle of wine and the finest cut of steak.

We will definitely be back!
