REVIEW |The Garden Secret Spa at

Ringwood Hall Hotel & Spa, Chesterfield

MOLLY SCOTT | 12 Sep 2019

I love a spa. I love everything about it: the unashamed decadence of spending time doing very little other than unwinding, I love the treatments and most of all I love lounging about in a dressing gown. I would happily travel a few hours to a decent spa.

But let’s face it, it’s better to spend as much time RELAXING as possible (rather than schlepping up and down a motorway) so when Ringwood Hall Hotel opened a luxe looking spa practically on my doorstep it was very much on my Girl About radar. Could this local find rival the big names of the spa industry?

Me and ‘are Sonia’, one of my oldest friends, set off to find out…

The spa is tucked away in the beautiful gardens of Ringwood Hall. On arrival, we received a warm, Derbyshire welcome and a shot sized glass of fresh fruit smoothie. The Glass House brassie was such a beautifully relaxed environment that we stayed in there and caught up over coffee, lusting over the gorgeous floral wallpaper.

The whole place is beautifully decorated – from the giant, fairy-lit cherry trees in the treatment suite upstairs to the funky use of faux foliage and windows to showcase the woodland outside. Everything at the Garden Secret Spa is designed with wellbeing and relaxation in mind.

Given its bijou size we were impressed with the range of facilities. There’s a Himalayan salt sauna, experience showers, vitality pool with Jacuzzi element and various jet streams (where I spent a dreamy half hour just gazing at the woodland gardens), foot spas, herbal sauna filled daily with fresh herbs from the garden, blossom steam room, ice fountain and relaxation lounges.

After a round of the spa, all that relaxation had worked up quite the appetite. Included in our spa day package was a choice of lunch or afternoon tea.

I cannot resist afternoon tea so tucked into beautifully made sandwiches, a scone with clotted cream and a selection of cute miniature cakes and desserts. The lunch option was a choice from a good range of pizzas, salads, wraps or sandwiches. We thought it was refreshing to see pizzas offered at a spa and Sonia enjoyed hers.

There’s a cocktail menu to rival most bars, a good selection of gins (and accompanying tonics) and a decent wine list. Sonia tried one of their signature cocktails – the limesecco – and gave her seal of approval. I stuck to prosecco but will definitely be exploring the cocktail menu on a future visit.

We had both pre-booked the ‘True Elysium’ treatment which involved a salt scrub and full body massage with various creams and oils and then a face and scalp massage. Both of us agreed the treatment was pure and utter bliss.

Days later, my skin still feels soft. My therapist, Jess, had magic hands, at one point even massaging away cramp in my ankle. Afterwards, we practically fell asleep in the relaxation lounge… never a truer sign of a spa day achieving its aims!

To sum up, the Garden Secret Spa is a hidden gem. It is small and intimate and so wouldn’t necessarily suit a large group, but otherwise ticks every single box. It’s spotlessly clean and has a good range of spa facilities. The Garden Secret Spa has definitely earnt a spot on my regular bolt-holes list. I loved the relaxed, caring vibe and the fact I can be there, in my robe, lounging on a day bed quicker than you can say “chilled out”.

With Love,

Molly x

This is a Girl About review. I was invited by the management to experience a spa day free of charge in exchange for an honest and frank review. All my opinions are my own and in no way have their been swayed by their kind invite. We paid for our treatments (at a small discounted rate) and paid in full for all drinks. Girl About reviews are always 100% honest. We only publish reviews that, for the most part, are positive.
