The Best Curry Houses in Bradford – A Roundup

By Caroline Towers – 11th April 2020
best bradford curry houses

Here in Bradford, there are hundreds of curry houses to chose from, as a city with a reputation for being able to get a really good curry. I rarely would have a curry out of the city, why go anywhere else when you can get brilliant award-winning curries on your doorstep?

Bradford has previously been awarded the Curry Captial of the UK for six years in a row which is no easy feat to achieve. What I love about having so many different curry houses is there is a style of curry to suit almost every taste. Many of the curry houses focus on different regions of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Curry Time

Earlier this week, I shared a post on Instagram to celebrate National Curry Week and ask what people’s favourite Bradford Curry House was! You won’t be surprised to find out that I received lots of responses from various people both who live in Bradford or who have visited and enjoyed a curry.

I thought it would be a nice idea to a round-up of all the recommendations I received. Some of these Curry Houses I have visited myself and some are now firmly on my list of must-visit places in Bradford. I must admit, it’s easy to stick to the ones you know but as Girl About Bradford I feel it is my duty to try different places and report back on the good ones!

For this roundup, I’m not including takeaways as then the list would be even longer but I wanted to recognise there are some wonderful takeaways in Bradford too, plus some of the places mentioned do offer takeaway alongside their restaurant service.

A Roundup of the best Curry Houses in Bradford

Khyber – 6 The Green, Idle, Bradford BD10 9PR – This was one of the top recommended restaurants and I’ve not been so I will be rectifying it soon. Visit website.

Shimla Spice – 69 Otley Rd, Shipley BD18 2BJ & 14 South St, Keighley BD21 1NR – A highly recommended restaurant and one of my boyfriend’s favourites, he loves the Desi Chicken Kharai. Visit website.

Jinnah – 109, 99 Leeds Rd, Bradford BD1 5BL & Jinnah Bistro 69 Bingley Rd, Saltaire, Shipley BD18 4SB – Another one which was mentioned multiple times. We had a great takeaway from here during lockdown too. Visit website.

Bhajis n Beer – 7-8, New Line Retail Park, New Line, Apperley Bridge, Bradford BD10 9AP – This received some rave reviews so I will be trying soon! Visit Facebook page.

The Curry House – 112-114 E Parade, Keighley BD21 5JA – This one was recommended by our very own Girl About founder, Lyndsey, who had a great experience when she visited recently & gave the Balti Murg Saagwahla a 10 out of 10! Visit website.

The International – 40-42 Morley St, Bradford BD7 1BA – This is one of those curry houses which feels like it’s been around forever in the city centre and I was pleased to hear it’s still serving great curries! Visit website.

The Sweet Centre – 110-114 Lumb Ln, Bradford BD8 7RS – Don’t be deceived by the name, there is lots of savoury goodness being dished up here. I used to work nearby and had a few good staff curries here! Visit website.

Sarinas at Sarinas – 25 High St, Queensbury, Bradford BD13 2PE – A new addition to Queensbury after relocating from Halifax. Visit website.

Bharat – 498, 502 Great Horton Rd, Bradford BD7 3HR – A curry house I’m not familiar with but the menu looks good. Visit website. Visit Facebook page.

The 3 Singhs – 254 Sticker Ln, Bradford BD4 8RN – This is another one which has always had a good reputation but it’s years since I’ve visited. Visit website.

Cardamon – 102 Main St, Bingley BD16 2JH – A nice little curry house in the heart of Bingley, they do a great set menu on a Sunday too. Visit website.

Shama – Clarke House, Keighley Rd, Bingley BD16 2RD – After hearing rave reviews I visited for the first time last year and I can confirm it didn’t disappoint. Visit website.

Aagrah – 4 Saltaire Rd, Shipley BD18 3HN & The Aagrah Building, MidPoint, Thornbury, Bradford BD3 7AY – Aagrah is a Bradford business which has grown due to its popularity. I’ve always had a great curry at the different venues and been to some events at the Thornbury restaurant which has always served up delicious food. They do a great buffet which allows you to try different curries so you can find your new favourite. Visit website.

Shezzaans – 508 Halifax Rd, Bradford BD6 2LH – A popular curry house in Wibsey, which I visited a few years ago, it sounds like it’s still just as good! Visit website.

Kebabeesh – 165 New Line, Greengates, Bradford BD10 0BN – A long-established curry house with a great reputation. One I’d love to try. Visit website.

Of course, this is only a handful of curry houses across Bradford where you can visit but it will give you some places which come recommended to start your curry tasting journey or try somewhere new next time you want to have a curry in Bradford.

This is a Girl About recommendation. This means that it was not gifted in return for a review but paid in full by our writer and the venue had no idea that I was there. We only recommend places we absolutely love, and places that we know you’ll love too!
