Why I love it: One of the best Sunday roasts in London

Expect: Amazing Sunday roast, relaxed atmosphere,

Setting the scene: Before you read this review, put your phone down and go book a table at Blacklock. There are three venues in London; Soho, The City, and Shoreditch. It’s worth doing now because you could be waiting a while; I had to wait almost three months for a booking. But, it’s completely worth it. You can try to get a walk-in booking, but they are like gold-dust and I just can’t do it – after about 30 minutes waiting I start to get hangry. And it’s usually a longer wait than that.

Advertised as a steak and chophouse; it’s not really the place for vegetarians or vegans, although there is a vegetable option if you want to try it. I’ve only been for Sunday lunch; but the rest of the menu is fairly extensive; think steaks, big chops, and skinny chops – there’s even ‘all in platter’ for when you just can’t decide what to have.

The Sunday lunch though – oh the Sunday lunch. You can choose between pork loin, lamb leg, or 55 day aged -beef rump, but I’d recommend going ‘all in’ – which is a mix of all three, served on a platter with all the trimmings. I’m salivating just thinking about it. Meat is tender, roasties are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The Yorkshire puddings are as big as my head – and that is BIG!

When it turned up I felt that all my Christmases had come at once – and I was very pleased I had worn clothes with a bit of ‘give’ in them. Pretty much every table that is served has the same ‘wow’ feel as they know that they’re about to dig into the good stuff.

Staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is as relaxed as you’d want it to be on a Sunday afternoon catching up with friends.

Word of warning before you tuck in – make sure you save some room for dessert – the white chocolate cheesecake is to DIE for.
