Romantic fine dining in one of Surrey’s most picturesque villages

What I loved about The Clock House:

The Michelin starred Clock House is the perfect place to enjoy high end British gastronomy with someone you love. Located in the picture perfect Surrey village of Ripley with views to the tree lined high street, the romantic setting will not fail to impress. Fall in love over the exquisite five or seven course tasting menu with beautifully paired wines and top notch service.

Worth paying a babysitter?

Absolutely! You will want to savour every minute and every mouthful of this incredible experience and not be worrying about the kids at home.

Expect:

A show stopping culinary journey in elegant surroundings. This is the place to go for a special occasion; take your credit card.

Value for money: 8 out of 10

Each dish is a work of art and the combination of simple and sometimes unusual flavours is more than enough to satisfy the most discerning foodies. The attention to detail will make you want to return before you’ve even left.

We have longed to sample the Michelin experience at The Clock House for some time and I’m delighted to tell you that it far exceeded our expectations. This beautiful fine dining restaurant is elegant but unassuming and totally unpretentious. We were welcomed in by a smartly dressed and friendly waiter, and shown through to the bar which had an exclusive and cosy feel about it. We were offered a drink and the menu was carefully explained to us. We had a choice of a la carte (£60), the five course tasking menu (£75) or the seven course tasting menu (£90) which we deliberated over while sipping on a glass of champagne.

We were invited through to the beautifully lit dining room with its exposed beams and romantic charm. With more than enough space between them, the immaculately laid tables together with their beautiful floral displays ensured privacy and reassurance of social distancing measures.

The menu:

We opted for the five course tasting menu together with the wine flight, something we have never done before.

Our tasting menu consisted of:

Squash Gingerbread and duck liver

This was deliciously delicate and light it melted in the mouth. The juxtaposition of flavours was unique and we could almost taste every ingredient.

Risotto Mushroom and 36 month aged parmesan

Possibly one of my favourite courses. Beautifully presented as you would expect, and the parmesan had a depth to it that I had never tasted before.

Brill Whey, caviar leek and nasturtium

A light dish with a warm sauce that tied the ingredients together seamlessly.

Lamb Celeriac, celery and truffle

Served pink and tender, this beautiful dish was even more delicious than it sounded. The combination of truffle and lamb was a particular highlight.

Chocolate Cherry and almond

The most exquisite and light dessert to complete this incredible journey of flavours.

There are few words that I can find to describe the quality, taste and presentation of the food itself but The Clock House holds three AA rosettes and a Michelin star so perhaps little explanation is needed. We were most impressed by the knowledge of the staff when it came to the ingredients and dishes that were served; nearly all of which are sourced from within the UK. The sommelier’s expertise was second to none and we thoroughly enjoyed each wine pairing.

Tempted? You’ll need to plan ahead and wont be surprised to hear that they are fully booked until Christmas. It will be worth the wait!
