REVIEW | Ladies ‘wot’ Lunch at Elsworth Kitchen.

A new Bistro in Skipton – Yorkshire

By Emma Banks | 30 Jul 2019

Why I loved Elsworth Kitchen?
The vibe, the diversity, the enthusiasm of the owners and of course, the food. It helps that the owners have a pretty enviable CVs too.

Worth paying a babysitter?
You may not need one depending on when you go as this bistro caters very well for little people. But if the dinner experience is as superb as lunch, line up the in-laws or splash out and pay a babysitter because you’ll be in for a treat!

Expect:
Eclectic decor, a very warm welcome, lots of people (and activity) watching opportunities and fabulous food.

Value for money: Outstanding 9/10

Setting the scene:
Emma (AKA Girl About West Yorkshire) and I were invited to this fabulous little bistro that is Elsworth Kitchen located just off Skipton High Street, right next to the canal and quite new to the Skipton dining scene.

We were given the warmest of welcomes by co-owner Rebecca who radiated so much enthusiasm for Elsworth Kitchen – a venture founded by this lovely lady and her hubby Bruce. It’s less than a year old and was opened by the delightful duo following Bruce’s career as Head Chef at The Angel at Hetton for 20 years and Rebecca’s role as Bistro Manager at The Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey.

Their combined experience in hospitality at two of Yorkshire’s most salubrious watering holes and eateries have been put to spectacular use here at Elsworth Kitchen – Emma and I loved everything about it from the word go.

Stylish and tastefully decorated throughout with a rustic twist, Elsworth Kitchen has an uber-cool vibe and attracts an array of people coming here for all sorts of reasons. It’s clearly a big hit with the locals already.

Emma and I sat in the ‘naughty corner’ which was more than appropriate for our little tete-a-tete. Meanwhile, Skipton’s Knitting and Natter Club were enjoying brunch with a stitch and no doubt a bitch on a large, long rustic table next to us, and to left was a lady with her laptop on a small table for two working away.

We enjoyed coffees perched on a stool at the bar before we were taken upstairs to be seated for lunch.

There’s a second bar on the first floor, a huge seating area and a children’s play corner so mummies can sip on their Cappuccino and relax whilst their little people can keep themselves entertained by a good selection of toys and games provided.

The Menu:
Which one? There’s a few! Breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner are all catered for.

We were here for lunch and the lunch menu boasted lots of great choices with delicious-sounding options to fit all dietary requirements – carnivores, vegans, vegetarians, gluten-free, dairy-free – Head Chef Bruce has put his a commendable experience to great use. The menu has been devised with great thought and attention to detail.

All ingredients have been carefully selected and locally sourced, which of course ticks a lot of boxes, our biggest hurdle was choosing what the hecky-thump to order from all the delicious-sounding plates.

So decided to stare.

We ordered traditional hummus served with warm flatbreads, warm salad of roasted cauliflower, rose harissa, chickpea, lemon, cashew nut and coriander dressing, poached eggs on toast, rosemary fries and a side of the black pudding. We were hungry!

If that little lush lot wasn’t enough, Bruce sent us over a delicious toasted rice and quinoa dish and some home-baked beans.

We left a little room for dessert – we had to – we could not resist the lemon curd tart, raspberries and lemon meringue ice cream and Yorkshire strawberries with white chocolate and vanilla ice cream.

Bruce’s experience is reflected so well in the menu at Elsworth Kitchen. The flavors and the quality of ingredients were exceptional and the attention to detail is evident in all aspects of this little gem of a bistro in Skipton. Thought has also been put into the selection of gins, craft beers, wines, coffees and chocolates on offer.

Elsworth Kitchen is a gift that keeps on giving to all the folks of Skipton and those who come from far and wide to wine and dine here. A cafe, a bistro, a restaurant, a bar, child-friendly, private parties catered for. They even host a number of themed evenings and tastings from gin to cheese, and food and wine pairing.

This little find is perfect for all occasions, and one event hosted by Rebecca, which is not for profit, is a support ground for new mums struggling with the reality of a newborn – you’ll catch me back here at Elsworth Kitchen on a regular basis in from December onwards then!

Thank you, Rebecca & Bruce, for such a delightful and delicious experience. We will see you again soon, that’s for sure.

With Love, Amy & Emma x
