Recommendation | Barge East Sunday lunch

By Lindsey Roberts – 25 May 2020

Why I love it: An opportunity to eat a restaurant-style Sunday lunch in my dining room. What’s not to love?

Worth getting delivered? Sure is.

Expect: Bloody good Sunday lunch, simple instructions, attention to detail.

Value for money: 8/10

Setting the scene: It’s about 2 pm. I’m setting the table, putting out the wine glasses, and polishing the cutlery in my sweatpants and t-shirt. It’s not just a normal Sunday. Well, there aren’t ‘normal’ Sunday’s anymore are there? But today, we’re getting Sunday lunch delivered from Barge East. We’ve been a few times to the actual restaurant – you can read my review here. When lockdown started we were craving a Sunday roast and were super pleased that they were delivering!

The Menu:

The menu is small but perfectly formed; four starters, three mains, and two puddings. We’ve had lunch delivered a couple of times and have always gone for burrata and njuda scotch egg, then the porchetta. But as I type I’m ordering for next week as they’ve introduced beef cheeks as one of the main courses and that is right up my street. There are vegan/vegetarian options too and also a roast chicken if that’s what you’d prefer.

What I love about this delivery service is that everything comes packed up well and it is easy to just warm up in the oven. The food isn’t soggy or overcooked. There are even instructions on what to do.

Portions are really good – a big slice of meat, Yorkshire pudding, vegetables, and roast potatoes that are crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Then there’s homemade apple sauce and gravy in separate containers to add as you see fit.

Excitingly as lockdown restrictions start to ease, Barge East has now launched a collection menu too; think homemade pork sausage roll, buttermilk fried chicken and chickpea fries.

You know I think I might have to get out of my sweatpants and give them a visit.

The details: Delivering Sunday lunches to E3, E50, E9, E15 & E20 postcodes.
