Places to Eat in Harrogate: Why I love Stuzzi

Authentic, delicious and independent, Stuzzi offers Italian cuisine in a relaxed, friendly environment. This small eatery in the heart of Harrogate has an almost tangible passion for incredible ingredients and amazing Italian recipes. It is a favourite with locals and busy every night, so book your table in advance to avoid disappointment. I also love that the menu is a Record of Achievement book right out of 1995!

Worth paying a babysitter?

Yes, absolutely

An understated little gem of a restaurant with less flash but more flavour than virtually any other restaurant in Harrogate.

Value for money: for me it’s a 10/10

Setting the scene:

There is a part of me that doesn’t want to share how wonderful this little restaurant is, as it’s hard enough to get a table as it is. But, as one of Harrogate’s best independents, it deserves my attention…

It is situated on Kings Road, Harrogate, directly across from the conference centre and within easy walking distance of the town centre and station.

Stuzzi looks intriguing from the outside. A black, awning covers the terrace area at the front of the restaurant, which itself is a colourful and eclectic mix of plastic covered picnic tables and tall tables and bar stools for guests to enjoy pre-dinner drinks, or where when the main restaurant is full, some guests are seated.

Enter into the main restaurant and everything feels rustic Italian. Wooden floors, wooden tables, a beautiful floor to ceiling wine wall and the kitchen – proudly on show with loud, noisy, passionate cooking happening right in front of you.

Stuzzi is the perfect place for an intimate meal for two as well as for a loud and raucous catch up with friends. I have done both over the past few years and cannot recommend this place highly enough. The staff is attentive and helpful – explaining the menu where required and suggesting dishes that complement each other.

The Menu:

The menu here changes every day. Stuzzi (stut-zee) is short for Stuzzichini – which are little plates of Italian cuisine served throughout bars and Osterias throughout Italy. “An Italian version of Tapas” is how Scott, our attentive waiter described it.

The lunch menu offers a large selection of Stuzzichini alongside two different pasta dishes, the dishes of the day and Panino – amazing sounding toppings served on Stuzzi’s own soft pane (bread). It is truly a mix of gastronomic treats and delights all accompanied and complemented by carefully selected imported drinks, meats and cheeses.

We ordered the Gusto Grande – a stuzzichini sharing board for 2 that gave us a selection of several dishes. All were mouth-wateringly delicious and probably used up our calorie count for the week.

Ooooh, but it was worth it!

This is a Girl About recommendation. This means that it was not gifted in return for a review but paid in full by our writer and the venue had no idea that I was there. We only recommend places we absolutely love, and places that we know you’ll love too!

Children’s Wellbeing | Kids these days – they’ve got it made – or have they?

Children’s Wellbeing | Kids these days – they’ve got it made – or have they?

I’m a primary school teacher and I’m a mum to a beautiful, bright and bubbly six-year-old. I witness the ups and downs of wellbeing in children every day. Every parent faces the same dilemma – how to ensure the wellbeing of our children – particularly from a mental health perspective in a world that is more pressured than ever in more ways than one.

REVIEW | Teddy Bears Picnic at Elements Coffee House in Derby

REVIEW | Teddy Bears Picnic at Elements Coffee House in Derby

I had already heard good things about Elements. Despite only just celebrating their first birthday, they’ve been nominated for two awards in Marketing Derby’s food and drink awards (Best Newcomer and Best Customer Service). Thanks to their beautifully curated Instagram feed they were firmly on my Girl About radar.

So when Elements got in touch to invite us to try their teddy bear’s picnic themed children’s menu I jumped at the opportunity. I can’t tell you the last time I enjoyed a delicious lunch out with my toddler. We have loads of fun but I’d pretty much resigned myself that civilised lunches at nice places were largely a thing of the past. I was intrigued to see whether this was the answer. In the week or so before, Lily was bubbling with excitement. I remained somewhat sceptical.

RECOMMENDATION | The Stratford Brasserie, Stratford – East London

Thursday night a couple of weeks ago and my Dad was in town. My step-mum had gone to an ABBA event at the O2 and he didn’t really fancy getting all dressed up like a Super Trooper, so we decided to go out for a bite to eat. I’d been to The Stratford once before when it first opened in the summer and was impressed with their Stratford burger, so thought it was worth having another look.
