RECOMMENDATION | Odyssey Greek Restaurant
What I like best about Odyssey Greek restaurant is that it genuinely feels like you’re holiday! No mean feat considering the restaurant is actually located in Chesterfield town centre. My husband and I are huge fans of Greece. Between us we’ve ticked off most of the Greek islands and have shared many happy memories there so it’s wonderful to have somewhere that feels like being on holiday on our doorstep. A perfect venue for date night!
Odyssey Greek restaurant has traditional, stylish decor. Starched white tablecloths, fresh flowers on each time and lots of candles. Huge windows let in lots of natural light. It really does feel like you’re eating in an authentic, upmarket restaurant in Greece itself.
Perfectly chilled ouzo was served as a complimentary aperitif… and that only added to the holiday feel.
The menu is exclusively Greek. All the regular favourites plus many I’d not heard of. I thoroughly recommend the meze to start – it was beautifully presented and offered a good selection of mainly vegetarian appetisers including a range of dips.
We both had chicken souvlaki for main which consisted of a generous amount of perfectly grilled chicken and beautifully cooked rice. The dessert menu was also characteristically Greek. If baklava is on the menu I HAVE to have it and I was not disappointed.
Service was excellent throughout – unobtrusive, efficient and friendly.
Three courses, coffees and a bottle of wine came to about £80 so not cheap, but we were happy to pay a premium for the quality food and relaxed, holiday ambiance.
We visited in early evening and enjoyed a very civilised childfree date night. Odyssey may well be more child-friendly during the day but be aware there is only one option on the children’s menu (burger – something my own fussy eater doesn’t like!).
P.S. If you fancy making a night of it I’d suggest a botanical cocktail from nearby Bottle and Thyme to kick off your evening!

I had already heard good things about Elements. Despite only just celebrating their first birthday, they’ve been nominated for two awards in Marketing Derby’s food and drink awards (Best Newcomer and Best Customer Service). Thanks to their beautifully curated Instagram feed they were firmly on my Girl About radar.
So when Elements got in touch to invite us to try their teddy bear’s picnic themed children’s menu I jumped at the opportunity. I can’t tell you the last time I enjoyed a delicious lunch out with my toddler. We have loads of fun but I’d pretty much resigned myself that civilised lunches at nice places were largely a thing of the past. I was intrigued to see whether this was the answer. In the week or so before, Lily was bubbling with excitement. I remained somewhat sceptical.
Thursday night a couple of weeks ago and my Dad was in town. My step-mum had gone to an ABBA event at the O2 and he didn’t really fancy getting all dressed up like a Super Trooper, so we decided to go out for a bite to eat. I’d been to The Stratford once before when it first opened in the summer and was impressed with their Stratford burger, so thought it was worth having another look.
