Why I love Darleys:
I’ve been coming to Darleys for well over a decade and have NEVER had so much as a disappointing course, let alone a bad experience. It is tried and tested for a special meal. Since getting married next door, Darleys holds an even more special place in our hearts. We got married at the West Mill, which is an exclusive use wedding venue. Whilst that was great for our special day, it sadly means we can’t return to reminisce or celebrate anniversaries… thankfully I am more than happy to return to Darleys for many years to come!

Worth paying a babysitter?
Totally! Leave the kids at home for this one and savour the ambiance.

Fine dining (without the pretence) and beautiful views of the river Derwent.

Value for money:
9 out of 10. It’s not cheap – but rivals any celebrity chef restaurant.

Darleys is a Derby institution. It has won countless awards. Darleys has been Derbyshire restaurant of the year several years running, holds two rosettes in the AA Restaurant Guide, has been recognised in the Good Food Guide for over 15 years and is Michelin recommended. Darleys is situated in the picturesque village of Darley Abbey on the edge of the river Derwent and there are wonderful views of the weir.

Welcome drinks are served in a central bar area (or weather permitting, an attractive terrace) with complimentary hand cooked crisps and beautiful fat olives. Once seated at your immaculately laid table, there’s a choice of freshly baked bread. Whatever you order you simply must have a coffee (or tea) for the homemade petit fours. These are actually quite substantial so you could skip dessert (or have a cheeseboard!) knowing these little beauties are on their way.

In short, Darleys offers fine dining without the pretence. The food is sublime and the location is pretty special.

The Menu:
Menus change regularly to showcase seasonal, locally sourced produce. I thoroughly recommend the set menus which offer excellent value. The three-course lunch menu is £25 per person and also available for dining before 7pm during the week. Otherwise, evening dining is a la carte only except for a seven-course tasting menu available for £50pp, but this needs to be taken by the whole table and is not available at weekends.

RECOMMENDATION: This is a Girl About recommendation. This means that it was not gifted in return for a review but paid in full by our writer and the venue had no idea that I was there. We only recommend places we absolutely love, and places that we know you’ll love too!
