The launch of a Positively Delicious food experience in Guildford

By Sara Hardy– 29th October 2020

Why I loved Positively Delicious:

I definitely fell out of love with cooking during lockdown, lost my mojo and became disenchanted. When I was invited to attend the Positively Delicious launch in collaboration with Surrey Blogger Collective, I had high hopes that my culinary sparkle might return.  Within seconds of speaking to its founder, Jacqueline, I realised that I’ve been going about it the wrong way. The positivity and encouragement she shared so passionately was infectious and has made me think about cooking differently. Jacqueline described how she finds cooking therapeutic and uses it as a creative outlet, just as I do when I put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard. More than that, I have started to reflect on the way I shop and cook.

Cost: £145 per person, currently running as groups of up to 12. As this is an educational facility, there are no Covid restrictions in terms of numbers.

This would make a great gift for: Anyone who loves cooking, anyone who wants to reignite their love for cooking and those who are passionate or keen to learn about regenerative agriculture and organic living.

Length of experience: Each workshop is approximately five hours in duration.

Location: Positively Delicious are a nomadic cookery school. At present they are based at the Guildford Institute and are planning to move to a new residency in Dorking early next year.

With an incredibly impressive CV that includes The Ritz and a TV appearance on Masterchef The Professionals, Cordon Bleu chef trained Jacqueline runs successful wedding and private dining businesses. Having always wanted to teach, Jacqueline set up Positively Delicious after hosting a number of online cook-alongs during lockdown. With a strong desire to turn the tables on the effects of the pandemic on the hospitality industry, the Positively Delicious team are now spreading knowledge and positivity through their cookery workshops.

What sets Positively Delicious apart from other cooking experiences is Jacqueline’s passion for regenerative eating by using local, organic and artisan produce. They can also boast a zero-food waste policy. Many of the ingredients for yesterday’s launch were foraged by Jacqueline earlier in the day or grown in her garden, and the meat was sourced locally and provided by The Guildford Butchery. Guilt free, regenerative food is wholly encouraged, hence their hashtag #goodfoodgoodmood.

The stunning floral displays by Sage and Co Floral Design were made from seasonal foliage from Jacqueline’s parents farm in Surrey. Using local suppliers wherever possible, Jacqueline is keen to support other local businesses in the hospitality industry. The beautiful signage was created by Surrey based Ali’s Vintage Hire, and even the catering equipment was supplied by Guildford’s own Bentley Brown.

Yesterday’s launch was a beautifully balanced mix of demonstrations, generous tasters and hands on cookery. It was an energetic, original and thoroughly memorable food experience in which we were invited to sample some very tasty dishes, including BBQ pulled jackfruit tacos, game and Guinness pie (after making our own puff pastry) and crème brulee. We were offered mojitos on arrival and red or white organic wine during the session, all of which were positively delicious.

In the absence of any kind of parties this year, I am very keen to join a workshop with my husband and some friends. The brunch workshop which features steak cookery, bloody marys and salted caramel banana bread sounds incredible, and the French cookery workshop with its champagne scallops has really caught my eye. You can see the full list of workshops on the Positively Delicious website.  If I was still working in the City this would have been the perfect event for our team’s Christmas party.

This is a great opportunity to #makeamazingmemories and learn skills that will extend far beyond the classroom.
