Virtual Murder Mystery event

What I loved about Play Dead London:

A really ingenious way of bringing people together – a great night ‘out’

Twists and turns and an immersive theatre experience from the comfort of your own living room!

Value for money: 9 out of 10

There was a murder in East London. And for the last hour, we became the detectives and helped to solve the mystery. Even better was that we did it from the comfort of our dining room and, I was in sweat pants. No shame in my relaxing game!

We were invited by Play Dead London immersive theatre company to take part in their online murder mystery event titled “A Deadly Dose”. I was intrigued to find out how on earth it was going to work online and I do love a crime drama so I said yes!

Before the event, we were given instructions via email on how to join the zoom call and, then we were in a holding room before being let into the main meeting. Pens and paper at the ready, it was time to begin!

Now, of course, I’m not going to give anything away – because I think you should go and solve the mystery for yourself! But, I will tell you – it was a lot of fun! As soon as you join the call, you’re straight into the ‘immersive theatre online experience’. It’s well organised and facilitated, with the actors playing their part very well. The hour we were on the call went so quickly!

It is as interactive as you want it to be; everyone has their cameras on, everyone is on mute, to begin with, whilst the scene is set.

There’s the opportunity to interrogate the suspects individually as the room splits out into breakout rooms and you can build your case against your suspected culprit.

By the end of the hour of moving through the different interview rooms, you’re back in the main room for the big reveal.

It’s something I’d definitely recommend doing – they have this show running until 1 November on a Sunday and Wednesday evening. After that, it’s a short interlude before their next show ‘Die Another Dame’, which begins towards the end of November.
