Let’s go outside – London edition

By Lindsey Roberts – 30 July 2020

We’ve got about three days of summer heading our way in London. On Friday it’s set to be 33 degrees down here. Practically hotter than the sun. So we wanted to do a very quick round-up of some of our favourite London haunts that you can venture to before it starts raining again on Monday. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Read on and let us know if you try any of them!

Food and drinks: West London

One of our favourites:

Alto by San Carlofive minutes walk from Bond Street station
Booking recommended. Located at the top of Selfridge’s, it’s somewhere to go if you’re looking for great Italian Tapas, a beautiful terrace space with great staff and a wonderful cocktail list. Find the secret entrance in the fragrance hall of Selfridge’s and take the lift to the top floor.

Find out more on their Instagram.

Others worth a visit:
St Christopher’s Placetwo minutes walk from Bond Street station.
Boutique shops and alfresco eating. Find out more here.

Carnaby Street – five minutes from Oxford Circus station.

Super pleased that this national treasure is reopening! Some restaurants are open, others are still just doing takeaway. Very much worth a visit. Find out more here.

Radio Rooftop London – five minutes from Covent Garden station

Booking is essential for this glamorous rooftop bar and once you see the views you’ll understand why. Head there for a spot of lunch or a glass of bubbles to celebrate making it to the weekend. Find out more here.

Food and drinks: North London

One of our favourites:

Granary Square, Kings Cross two mins walk from Kings Cross station
An absolute belter of a location on a sunny day! Located a stone’s throw behind Kings Cross station is Granary Square, which is host to a plethora of hip and trendy restaurants. Lina Stores have gone alfresco and Caravan has got the best views of the square (they are the OG of the area, so understandable). Lots of other places are offering takeaway options too so you can enjoy your food in lots of beautiful spots to picnic in the parks, gardens, and on the banks of the canal. Read more here

Then, if you want to cool down after a hot day, ‘jump’ into this outdoor pool. Well, not quite, but take a look at this fantastic installation from award-winning German artist Stephan Zirwes.

Others worth a visit:
Upper Street, Islington – two minutes from Highbury and Islington station
This is the central thoroughfare through Islington, lots of shops, places to eat and a lovely chilled vibe.

Food and drinks: South London

One of our favourites:
Sea Containers, Southbankfive minute walk from Blackfriars station

On the ground floor of a wonderful South Bank hotel and overlooking the Thames is Sea Containers. It’s a restaurant suitable for all occasions. Long lunch on a Sunday with the family? Yep. Bottomless brunch with the girls on a Saturday afternoon? Yep. Thursday night date night? Yep again. It’s a large versatile space, with a relaxing environment in the week and then an uptempo feel at the weekend. It reopens its doors on 1 August (YAY) so it would be rude not to go and say hello. Go for the bottomless brunch – you will not be disappointed! Read more in our post here.

Others worth a visit:

Bussey Rooftop Barnearest station – Peckham Rye
Dog friendly with views for days across London. What’s not to love? Find out more here.

Seabirdnearest station – Southwark
This is The Hoxton’s first rooftop bar in London and it is glamorous with a capital G. If you enjoy the drinks, then stay for dinner. Their seafood looks incredible. Find out more here.

The Prince nearest station – West Brompton

One street, four restaurants, three bars and covered woodland garden. Find out more here.

Food and drinks – East London
Earlier this week we wrote a post all about our favourite outdoor haunts in East London, check it out here. But here are a few we didn’t get chance to add to the original list!

Dineramanearest station – Shoreditch High Street

Run by Street Feast London, Dinerama is one of four locations across London. It offers some of the best street food in the UK and you’re guaranteed to leave with the meat sweats, as I have done on many occasions. Best get a move on though, this location is closing it’s doors at the end of the summer season for good. Sad times. Find out more information here.

Coq D’Argentnearest station – Bank

Lots of options to choose from here; restaurant, bar and grill or terrace and gardens with fabulous view of the London city skyline. Is it too much to want to do all three? Find out more details here.

Skylight – Tobacco Docks nearest station – Shadwell

Rooftop bar with tables, seats and booths available for you to relax and unwind with a cocktail in hand. Booking is recommended. Find out more here.

Netil360, Hackney – nearest station – London Fields

Located at the very top of Netil House, not far away from Broadway market is one of the original rooftop bars – they’ve been around for six years and counting so definitely know what they’re doing when it comes to offering food, drink and workspace. Still not made it back into the office yet? Head down here, bring your laptop and get some sunshine on your face while you’re on those Skype calls. You know it makes sense. Find out more here.

Hopefully, there is something in there that will inspire you for the next few days and make sure you refer back to this list for some more info when we get some more summer days in August (fingers crossed).

We KNOW there are lots of places that we’ve missed off the list – this is just to whet your appetite! If you think we need to get out and try one of your favourite places then drop us a message and we’ll see what we can do.

This is a Girl About recommendation. This means that it was not gifted in return for a review but paid in full by our writer and the venue had no idea that I was there. We only recommend places we absolutely love, and places that we know you’ll love too!

Some of the images we’ve used are from the Instagram accounts or websites of the places we’ve recommended.
