RECOMMENDATION:

Hippie Halloween Pumpkin Festival at Crockford Bridge Farm, Weybridge

By Sara Hardy– 17th October 2020
RECOMMENDATION | Billy Bob’s Parlour & Diner – The Yorkshire Dales 114

Crockford Bridge Farm has been one of our go-to places for quite some time. In the summer months we love picking fruit and vegetables there, and in the autumn and over Christmas their events are whimsical and inspired.

What makes Crockford Bridge Farm stand out from the rest? It has personality by the bucket load! Think flower power and a laid back seventies vibe. Just take a look and you’ll see what I mean; the Crockford team just want their visitors to have a great time.

Our boys have loved the wooden playgrounds for years; the slides off the hay bales have provided many a thrill; and don’t even get me started on the ice cream parlour! Trying to leave after an afternoon of strawberry picking in summer can be quite a challenge!

Cost: £27 for a family of four (two children under 14) for the Hippie Halloween event. Pumpkins are not included; we bought a decent sized pumpkin for £5, and two smaller pumpkins for £2 each. However, once you’re in, all the other activities are totally free of charge. These include the limbo, hook a duck, chuck a duck, pumpkin shy, pumpkin carving and a number of other activities. You can just wander up and have a go (socially distanced of course). This year, luxury loos have been provided on site to save the walk to the neighbouring garden centre. They have laid on so much this year we felt that the ticket price was more than justified.

Length of experience:  Up to 2. 5 hours

We arrived about ten minutes early and were at the front of the queue. It felt extremely well organised with sanitiser stations at various points around the field, together with temperature checks on entry for everyone.

Location: Crockford Bridge Farm, New Haw Road, Weybridge, KT15 2BU

Today, Crockford Bridge Farm has swung open its gates for the start of their annual Pumpkin Festival. Whilst this year looks a little different (you have to book a time slot, which in many ways controlled the crowds to brilliant effect), I have no hesitation in saying that this has been their best year yet!

No event at Crockford Bridge Farm would be complete without some immersive theatre in the Wonder Wood, but sadly Covid has put the brakes on that. Instead, they have brought the magic to Crockford’s Corner with a few of our favourite characters (namely a few motley pirates) who performed witty and humorous poetry, sang songs and played their guitars, and of course interacted with the younger visitors from a safe distance. It was magical and our boys (aged 4 and 2) were mesmerised.

The lack of sunshine today helped us to steer our boys away from the Ice Cream Parlour but it was open to Festival ticket holders. The Tea Shack was also open serving amongst many things, hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows, apple juice fresh from the farm and of course Halloween chocolates and toffee apples. If you are feeling peckish, Happy Herefords are there as a Pop Up offering delicious burgers and hot dogs from their own farm.

Unfortunately the Pumpkin Festival is now sold out for this year but please bookmark my page as you will not want to miss out next year! You can still visit the farm and have the opportunity to buy their pumpkins from the Pumpkin Market (open 10am- 5pm daily with no need to book). For those of you lucky enough to have snapped up tickets for the Festival, you are in for a treat!

Tickets for Father Christmas will go on sale shortly after the Pumpkin festival (another regular for my family so expect some updates from me) and you will be able to go and cut down your own Christmas tree from the end of November. Fans of E4’s Made in Chelsea may recognise it as the farm features on the show most years.

A brilliant event in the height of the pandemic: Kudos Crockford!
