Mother’s Day Gift Ideas from Independent Hampshire Businesses

Many of us are making more of an effort lately to purchase from smaller, local businesses. It helps to boost our local communities, as well as help out small business owners. Mothering Sunday is just around the corner on Sunday 14th March, so now is the time to be looking for those Mother’s Day gift ideas.

To help out, I’ve put together a collection of Mother’s Day gifts, from Hampshire businesses which I have either purchased or received goods from myself, or those for which I’ve received a trusted recommendation. Make sure you leave enough time to order, especially with personalised and made-to-order items.

Mother’s Day gift ideas for…

The chocoholics and cake lovers

NIBBL. – This Basingstoke business sells chocolate gifts and treats which make ideal gifts, a particular favourite is the chocolate letter, which you can personalise to your preferred message. This is a great, purse-friendly option which could be sent from children or adults.

Bonham’s Bonbons  – Charlotte is a trained pastry chef, and after suffering the impacts on the hospitality industry in 2020 she set up her own chocolatier business. Bonham’s Bonbons are the most attractive looking chocolates I’ve seen; shiny and perfectly presented. Fortunately, they also taste as good as they look!

Butter, Sugar, Flower – Sarina is Southampton based, but often arranges delivery all over the county, and you can usually find her at Winchester Farmer’s Markets. Her cupcake bouquets are exquisite and make the perfect gift.

Gin and fizz options

Gin – The chances are you know a mum who is a fan of gin; here are some which they may not have tried. My ultimate favourite is River Test Distillery who were awarded Best English London Dry at the World Gin Awards 2020. The beautiful glass-topped bottle makes for a lovely present.

Gorilla spirits make a range of small-batch spirits including Wild Strawberry Gin and Mountain Strength Vodka and I love that £1 from every bottle sale goes to the Gorilla Organisation.

Another local favourite is Twisted Nose gin from Winchester Distillery which has a hint of watercress in it and the bottle is so stunning that it won Best Design at the World Gin Awards.

Black Chalk – English Sparkling Wine is the next trend in wine, and a bottle of a local fizz is a nice gift. Black Chalk Wild Rose is a particularly lovely choice for a lucky mum, and you can also purchase tour vouchers for Summer. You can read about my tour there here:

Somborne Valley Vineyard – Another Hampshire wine-producer; Somborne have a delicious sparkling rosé that won Silver at the last Wine GB awards. Another great English sparkling wine option, which pairs perfectly with an afternoon tea.

Flowers and pretty things

Rose and Lewis Collection In Winchester, Mary makes signs, decorations and jewellery from resin, decorated with petals and foliage. She has a bespoke Mother’s Day collection on her website; I’ve ordered from her previously and am very happy with my pretty sign.

La Luna Floral Design – Claire is my go-to florist, she provided my wedding flowers, and more recently has created Christmas and ‘hug in a jar’ options for my mum which have been very well-received. She has a stunning Mother’s Day range which also caters for a range of budgets. Available for click and collect, or delivery to Basingstoke and surrounding villages.

Dean and Dotty Childrenswear – They’ve recently launched adult sweatshirts in a lovely blush pink and blue leopard print design. This means that mums can now match with their toddlers and children up to 7 years old. All the products on this shop are handmade to order so do allow at least 10 days; but they are fantastic quality and I’ve already bought baby Hampshire some leggings from there.

The Hampshire Flower Hut – This company is all about the wild, sustainable and seasonal. The Mother’s Day collection is full of beautiful options for around the Southampton, Portsmouth, Winchester areas.

Owl and the Pussycat – This Stockbridge boutique have some gorgeous items for mums of all ages. They sell fashion, home accessories, and stationery. Visit their website to see just how wide a range they stock.

Hiltingbury Holistics – This Winchester business specialises in natural soy wax candles, in delightful scents such as Espresso Martini. The candle-making kits are fantastic for a present; you can make your own luxury tealights or candle at home.

Nids Finds – A unique homeware store full of quirky and wonderful Mother’s Day gift ideas. A favourite of mine is the ‘Blooming amazing Mum’ ombré planter, but there’s a variety of purse-friendly gifts on offer.

Afternoon Teas

Parlour Tearooms – This popular Basingstoke business is back with a Mother’s Day special. Purchase a lovely afternoon tea in a box, or a gift voucher for later this year to go and have tea and cake with your Mum.

Big Blue Cafe – A cafe in Totton creating fabulous afternoon tea boxes for the local area. These sell out quickly so get your pre-orders in now. Brunch boxes or afternoon tea boxes available at just £12.50pp.

Highclere Castle – One of my favourite days out with my mum was afternoon tea at Highclere Castle. It’s better recognised as TV’s Downton Abbey, and makes for the perfect venue. The afternoon tea was delicious and included a glass of bubbly. You can also enjoy a walk around the gardens, or a Highclere Gin outside afterwards.

Oakley Hall Hotel – You can buy gift vouchers for when they reopen post lockdown and enjoy afternoon tea in the library or out on the terrace. Think pretty, dainty patisserie in a gorgeous setting.

Audleys Wood Hotel – They do have a click and collect service operating right now which includes afternoon tea. Alternatively you can buy gift vouchers for when they reopen fully.

Hopefully, you’ve found some inspiration for Mother’s Day gift ideas from lovely Hampshire businesses. I will also be sharing more options to my highlights on Instagram as and when they are released.

All the best,

Sarah
