REVIEW Mercatum Late Summer Artisan Market

at Haddon Hall, Derbyshire

By Molly Scott – 11th September 2020
What I loved about Mercatum Late Summer Artisan Market at Haddon Hall:

I loved everything about the Mercatum. Set in the stunning grounds of Haddon Hall, the river and ancient hall made a delightful backdrop for the open air market. There was an excellent range of stalls and plenty of seating to enjoy the atmosphere.

Worth paying a babysitter?

Yes! I had a lovely childfree morning with a friend, but if your husband is more amenable than mine to a bit of a mooch, it’d make a perfectly lovely day date. You could definitely take the family though, there was plenty of space (although not necessarily much for children to do).

Eighty carefully selected artisans selling everything from make your own ice cream kits to alcoholic tea! Both were excellent, by the way! There was a good range of street food stalls, including excellent barista coffee and cocktails, a van selling crepes, vegan street food and various yummy cake stalls dotted about. Plenty of comfy seating was available, all spaciously laid out.

The event is all outside and the stalls were very well spaced out so crowds didn’t form. Hand sanitiser was readily available, as were toilets which were clean and well managed to ensure social distancing was adhered to. I felt completely safe.

Value for money:  8/10

It’s £5.50 each for adults, under 15s are free and parking is £3.50. We spent the whole morning pottering about and then relaxing with a coffee. I think that’s good value for half a day’s entertainment.

The market is on all weekend, until Sunday 13th September, 10am-5pm each day (with last entry at 4pm). All tickets must be booked in advance, although you can book up to and including on the day, and show the booking confirmation on your phone. Dogs are not permitted.

And if you’ve missed this particular event, keep an eye on the website as the seasonal markets are a regular feature at Haddon Hall.

This is a Girl About review. I was invited by the management and gifted free tickets and parking in exchange for an honest and frank review. All my opinions are my own and in no way have they been swayed by their kind invite. Girl About reviews are always 100% honest. We only publish reviews that, for the most part, are positive.
