Girl About Cheshire’s Top 5 Pumpkin Patches this October

By Jenny Schippers – 6th September 2020

Girl About Cheshire’s Top 5 pumpkin patches this October 🎃

With the change of the seasons and October just around the corner, it won’t be long before we are pulling on our wellies once again and heading out into the fields of Cheshire to hand-select our perfect pumpkin ready for Halloween.

Every year this pursuit appears to gain in popularity and I imagine this coming season will be the busiest yet as it remains an excellent socially-distanced, safe activity for the whole family. Many farms around the County go to great lengths to entice visitors in with not just amazing quality home-grown pumpkins but also a range of activities to suit all ages.

So that you are prepared this year, I have put together my Top 5 pumpkin patches in Cheshire (with a couple of extras thrown in for good measure) with all the details of their events, opening dates, and location details. Please note, these were correct at the time of writing but always check on the relevant social media pages for updates before visiting.

Kenyon Hall Farm – https://www.kenyonhall.co.uk/

Address: Winwick Lane, Croft, Warrington, WA3 7ED

Now the biggest pumpkin picking destination in the North of England, Kenyon Hall Farm really knows how to do it well! All visitors to the pumpkin picking areas (inside and outside) will need to pre-book a ticket in advance. The cost is £2 each for adults and children (babies under 18 months free). Included in this price is access to the pumpkin patch, the indoor pumpkin displays, pumpkin-tastic photo backdrops, and carving displays.  Access to the carving den is an additional cost on the day. The farm shop, outdoor cafe, play area, and toilets are all open. Tickets must be booked in advance for the dates Saturday 3rd to Saturday 31st October.

Dunham Massey Ice Cream Farm https://www.facebook.com/Dunham-Massey-Farm-Ice-Cream-172736049751319/

Address: Ash Farm Station Road, Dunham Massey, Altrincham WA14 5SG

Working with Red House Farm this year, this unique collaboration will deliver an organic pumpkin patch alongside homemade ice cream. What is not to love about that combination?! At the farm there will be a selection of hot food on offer, the Vintage Angel Design on-site shop and ice-cream parlour. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available and the location is close to NT Dunham Massey, so it would be easy to combine the two.

There is no need to book, just turn up and pay for the pumpkins you pick (priced according to size). As always, wellies are recommended as the pumpkin patch can get muddy.

All activities are outdoors, but social distancing guidelines will still be maintained, with sanitising points on hand and contactless payment available and encouraged. The farm is open for pumpkin picking 10:00-16:00 on the following dates:

Saturday 3rd October/Sunday 4th October

Saturday 10th October/Sunday 11th October

Saturday 17th October/Sunday 18th October

Saturday 24th October/Sunday 25th October

Half Term week Monday 26th – Friday 30th October/Saturday 31st October

Located (just) over the Welsh border in Holt this independent farm shop and garden centre is only 9 miles from both Wrexham and Chester. There is a large onsite restaurant and plenty of opportunities to shop in its gift department. Booking for PYO pumpkin opens on 30th September and there is no charge for this but you must pre-book ( it is just to monitor visitor numbers). Open 10.00-17.00 on the following days for picking:

Saturday 10th October/Sunday 11th October

Saturday 17th October/Sunday 18th October

Saturday 24th October/Sunday 25th October

Bellis Bros Farm Shop was recommended by a number of my followers on Instagram so I will definitely be checking it out myself this year.
