REVIEW | LA Pop – Birmingham’s First Dedicated Gelato Café
LA Pop, Birmingham’s first (and only) unique, specialty gelato café
Setting the scene:
Husband and Wife ran, LA-Pop is situated in the up and coming Edgbaston village. Upon walking through its doors my eyes were drawn to the colourful vibrant and highly Instagram-able décor, the walls adorned with lolly themed paper, art work and prints its easy to see what the theme is from the off.
Value for money:
The ice creams themselves are reasonably priced at £3.50 and mark my words when I say they are filling.
Why I loved LA Pop:
Anyone who knows me will vouch for my love of a delicious dessert, passion for animal welfare and obsession with independent retailers. So, when I heard about LA Pop, Birminghams first (and only) unique, speciality gelato café I couldn’t wait to find out more. I was greeted by Anum who welcomes each and every customer personally before explaining what they have to offer. Anum showed me around the impeccable kitchen area where everything is prepared and made by staff who have previously worked in top restaurants, ensuring that high quality is consistent. She explained that the idea came to her while on holiday three years ago, realising that the choices of ice cream offered in UK cafes is quite limited.
LA Pop is fast becoming a popular venue for just about anyone from office workers on their lunch breaks to school children looking for a treat after a long day. The location is great for that post shopping sit down and they have a fabulous selection of hot and cold quality drinks.
And for those who want to sample these delights in the comfort of their own home? You can now order your very own from Deliveroo which arrives in specialised packaging which enables them to stay ice cold for up to one hour without melting and can also be kept in the freezer. Just the perfect indulgence for those winter evenings in front of the TV and you don’t even have to leave your home to get one.
This one of a kind cafe is passionately ran, with quality ice cream, top customer service and a unique venue to boot I predict that LA Pop is going to go far and I for one will be returning.
LA-Pop specialises in handcrafted gelato lollies (ice cream on a stick). With flavours to choose from Milk to pineapple there is something to suit every pallet. Once selected the lolly is then dipped in a choice of Milk, Dark, White or Pink chocolate, before being generously sprinkled with up to three toppings and drizzled with more chocolate and finally placed inside a funky tray to avoid any unwanted spillages. With so many options the creations are endless.
I went for a caramel with white chocolate and topped with nuts, crushed Oreo and hundreds of thousands. My husband had pineapple and my daughter Milk and we all agreed that it was the most delicious ice cream we have ever had.
The gelato itself is made on site using organic milk from a local farm which was carefully selected by the owners to ensure that the cows are free range, grass fed all year round and who rear their own calves.

This is a Girl About review. I was invited by the management to dine at their venue free of charge in exchange for an honest and frank review. All my opinions are my own and in no way have they been swayed by their kind invite. Girl About reviews are always 100% honest. We only publish reviews that, for the most part are positive.

I’m a primary school teacher and I’m a mum to a beautiful, bright and bubbly six-year-old. I witness the ups and downs of wellbeing in children every day. Every parent faces the same dilemma – how to ensure the wellbeing of our children – particularly from a mental health perspective in a world that is more pressured than ever in more ways than one.
I had already heard good things about Elements. Despite only just celebrating their first birthday, they’ve been nominated for two awards in Marketing Derby’s food and drink awards (Best Newcomer and Best Customer Service). Thanks to their beautifully curated Instagram feed they were firmly on my Girl About radar.
So when Elements got in touch to invite us to try their teddy bear’s picnic themed children’s menu I jumped at the opportunity. I can’t tell you the last time I enjoyed a delicious lunch out with my toddler. We have loads of fun but I’d pretty much resigned myself that civilised lunches at nice places were largely a thing of the past. I was intrigued to see whether this was the answer. In the week or so before, Lily was bubbling with excitement. I remained somewhat sceptical.
Thursday night a couple of weeks ago and my Dad was in town. My step-mum had gone to an ABBA event at the O2 and he didn’t really fancy getting all dressed up like a Super Trooper, so we decided to go out for a bite to eat. I’d been to The Stratford once before when it first opened in the summer and was impressed with their Stratford burger, so thought it was worth having another look.
