Free Family Days Out In North Yorkshire!

By Natalie Johnson – 19th April 2021

5 free family days out in North Yorkshire

Who says real family fun has to cost the earth. There are so many fantastic free family days out in North Yorkshire. You really will be spoilt for choice when it comes to free fun in God’s own county!

Whitby Beach and Harbour

If the coast is calling and you’re craving that salty sea air. Whitby is the perfect place to visit for a great day out! You have to pay to park but after that, you can choose to spend as much or as little as you want. That is why I had to pop it down on my free family days out in North Yorkshire!

If the weather is on your side, then a day at the beach is a must. There is also so much more to this wonderful place. With beautiful walks and cosy historic cobbled streets to wander down. A day isn’t long enough to appreciate this real gem of a place.

Malham Cove

This place has been attracting visitors for centuries, with its huge curved amphitheatre-shaped cliff formation of limestone rock. This fantastic place is open all year round and gives you some of the most incredible views of Yorkshire. Which overlooks the village of Malham and beyond.

There are plenty of well set out footpaths, just make sure you’re appropriately dressed for the weather and you’ll have a super day.

You pay to park in the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority Car Park.

Ribblehead Viaduct

Calling all walkers and hikers!

This impressive structure is just over the border from Cumbria into North Yorkshire and carries the Settle-Carlisle Railway across Batty Moss in the Ribble Valley at Ribblehead.

The Ribblehead Viaduct is the longest and the third tallest structure on the Settle-Carlisle line, and it’s one of the most atmospheric walks here in North Yorkshire. It even appeared in the Harry Potter films. If you love birdwatching and photography then you will really enjoy a day out here.

My family and I took a trip here just recently and it was such an incredible place to visit. You can make the walk as long or as short as you want. Either way, you will be surrounded by stunning views and fascinating wildlife.

There’s plenty of free parking at the roadside laybys and also parking near the Station Inn.

Druids Temple

Druids Temple is such a fantastic free family day out in North Yorkshire. This magical spot nestled in woodland at Swinton Bivouac near Leighton Reservoir in Ripon is not actually a temple but a nineteenth-century folly. This wonderful place inspired by Stonehenge is perfect for walks, picnics, and bird watching. It’s certainly a great day out for nature and ancient history lovers alike. With so many trails and climbs, this landmark is a fantastic place to come and explore.

Parking is £3

The Station at Richmond

This is a real gem for when the great North Yorkshire weather isn’t doing so well.

The Station is just a few minutes walk from Richmond market place if you choose to park there and walk over the bridge to The Station or you can park in The Station car park itself.

This Richmond treasure is home to a range of wonderful artisan businesses, From freshly baked bread, pastries, and cakes to local ales and ice cream. Even jewellery, ceramics, and textiles. You can also enjoy a look around the art gallery upstairs, grab a bite and a beer at the cafe bar, and catch a film in the warm and welcoming Cinema.

There is also a beautiful scenic circular walk from The Station following the footpath along Richmond Falls all the way to Easby Abbey. Just ask at The Station for more details. thestation.co.uk

I don’t know about you, but free family days out are the best. And free family days out in North Yorkshire are even better!

This is a Girl About recommendation. This means that it was not gifted in return for a review but paid in full by our writer and the venue had no idea that I was there. We only recommend places we absolutely love, and places that we know you’ll love too!
