Five favourite foodie hotspots that deliver to your door.

Girl About London team – 20 June 2020

With news from the Government that the lockdown restrictions have been lowered from four to three, we can see a glimmer of hope and start to imagine what our new normal will become. But how will we socialise and when can we go out for brunch?

We know it might be a little while longer before we can get back to our favourite restaurants, so the Girl About London team (who are all massive foodies) wanted to share some of their recommendations from across the city so you can get that restaurant fix at home:

The Pizza Room, Mile End – Dimple.
Has lockdown got you feeling like you need a trip to Italy soon? Do you miss eating fire-baked pizzas and tiramisu? The Pizza Room in Mile End offers exactly that – authentic, thin-crust pizzas with multi-grain and gluten-free options delivered right to your doorstep, just give them a call!

The menu offers a pizza for every mood: choose from a large variety ranging from pollo pesto to Quatro Formaggio or even a classic Margherita (an excellent Margherita can never be beaten, am I right?!)

If you’re feeling creative and would like to take a trip to Rome in your living room why not attempt making a pizza at home! The Pizza Room have you covered for that too.

They have donated their ‘pizza for two’ recipe to Cook for Charity; a non-profit organisation who have teamed up with a bunch of restaurants to create an e-cookbook for individuals to enjoy favourite restaurant dishes at home while raising money for the NHS.

Other Pizza Room locations: Poplar, Surrey Quays and New Cross. More info on their website or follow them on Instagram.

District Môt – Hannah.

This place is a little Vietnamese restaurant on Leytonstone High Road and it serves up the yummiest most authentic dishes that leave you wanting to try more!

Everything is cooked with love and tastes so hearty. Perfect comfort food, but also great for the Summer weather as it’s so light and fragrant!

The restaurant itself is cool, quirky, and casual – perfect for a bite after work or a casual night out. As we are in lockdown the restaurant is of course off-limits for now, but they provide a wonderful takeaway/delivery service and the food is JUST as good as it is when you sit in!

I highly recommend the summer rolls, the crispy aubergine, and the big bowls of pho. I almost always go for the vegan pho, I love how warming it is. Tasty, healthy, authentic food – what more do you need!?

Maestri Della Pasta, Borough – Emma.

Imagine the true authentic Italian experience delivered to your door or picked up from Borough, well Maestri Della Pasta has exactly that!

They deliver authentic Italian food, with an ever-changing menu to keep your taste buds tingling. The menu changes every week so you’ll never be short of choice. All pasta is freshly made and sauces are created to reflect the authentic Italian experience.

I opted for the ‘Fusilli Alla Melanzana’; fresh fusilli pasta tossed in a rich tomato and aubergine sauce, topped with rocket. My partner had the ‘Rigatoni Alla Bolognese’; Maestri Della Pasta’s take on the classic Bolognese. We accompanied our food with a cheeky Positano salad with fresh mozzarella, rocket, and olives.

All food comes served in decent portion size and packaged up to keep it warm. They are currently offering delivery through Deliveroo or collection from the restaurant! You won’t regret it!

BAO London – Marlena.

Known for their steamed buns and range of contemporary Taiwanese dishes
(and the 40-day aged beef with Taipei Butter rice that’s a beauty to see!), they’ve opened their takeaway Rice Error by BAO.

Inspired by the Taiwanese Bian Dan Rice Box, they’re offering a range of rice boxes (meat and veg), baos and they’re crispy Taiwanese fried chicken. We ordered the 40 Day Aged Black Pepper Beef which came with rice, kale, and a perfect soy boiled egg and the Taiwanese Fried Chicken with a spicy dip.

What I loved about the meal was how unique the takeaway was presented – with the wooden rice box and the royal blue paper bag, it’s something to remember! Every component of the meal was amazing and I’ll be back for more.

They’re currently delivering around Borough, Fitzrovia, and Hackney. Find out more on their website or follow them on Instagram.

The Breakfast Club – Lindsey.

I’ve been a Breakfast Club fan for years and have spent many hours queuing to get into their cafes; dotted across London. Retro vibe and eclectic interiors with damn tasty food. When I found out they were doing deliveries I jumped at the chance to get involved and they have made Sunday brunch much more palatable because I don’t have to cook!

Our usual order is an ‘All American’ and ‘Gluten-free pancakes with bacon and berries’. Everything comes so well packaged – which can often be where a lot of places fall down – and it is just DREAMY at the weekend as a treat. If brunching isnt your thing they have other things on their menu too. Think ‘Cornflake Chicken, Egg and Cheeseburger’, sweet potato fries or ‘The Club Burrito’. I’m drooling at the thought.

Order via their website and follow them on Instagram.

So it’s safe to say that we all can’t wait to get back and visit these places in person, but for now, it’s just nice to be able to recreate those restaurant vibes at home.

Have we missed somewhere off our list that we need to try? Let us know and we’ll try to visit them if we can.
