My first restaurant experience post lockdown.

Duck and Waffle

Why we love it: 24 hour restaurant in the heart of the City. Known for it’s amazing views and infamous ‘Duck and Waffle’ main course.

Expect: Great service, attentive staff, decadent setting

Worth getting an Uber for: 100% yes.

Setting the scene: As restaurants start to open in London with limited capacity and mandatory bookings, there’s no question that the experience of eating out will be quite different!

I have been quite nervous about being out and about. Nonetheless, it was time to experience the new-norm and hopefully enjoy it.

We arrived at Heron Tower, and the streets were much quieter than the usual hustle and bustle of people hoping to get into Sushi Samba or Duck and Waffle without reservations! We gave our name at the door and swiftly escorted to the lifts leading up to the 39th floor.

The floors had social distancing markers as well as arrows guiding individuals to stay left/right depending on the direction you’re headed. Once we got to Duck and Waffle, we were given the option of a paper menu or a QR code menu that we could load on our phone. I opted for the QR code to be on the safe side.

We were led to our table which was distanced from others around us. Everything we needed was bought to us once the waiters knew what we’d ordered. All of the staff wore PPE and were super friendly.

The view was incredible. I’d booked the table for around 9 pm so we just caught the sunset and beautiful skies while dining. The food was exquisite as always. We ordered scallops and puy lentils for small plates, followed by the duck and waffle for main – you can’t go to Duck and Waffle without ordering the classics!!

As the evening went on, one thing I noticed was how efficient the staff were; they kept tables and chairs clean with heavy anti-bac spray after diners left the table.

Overall, we had an incredible evening. The staff made us feel at ease, the cocktails were to die for and the food was as amazing as always! The whole experience has given me comfort eating out again in the future and supporting local businesses

I can’t wait to be back for brunch with the girls and the gorgeous views of London!
