REVIEW | Festive Food at The Green House in Sutton Coldfield – The Midlands

By Vanessa Woollatt – 30th November 2019

Why I loved The Green House?

I am a pub girl through and through and a glutton for a good, hearty menu. Forever hunting out new locations to catch up with my friends or to go for lunch with the family, so was super excited to discover this little gem situated in the beautiful Sutton.

Worth paying a babysitter?
It is a lovely place to enjoy an evening away from the kids and we really appreciated making the time for each other. However, they have a great selection of foods if you want to take the kids for a weekend lunch.

A spacious dining area, yet maintaining an intimate atmosphere with stylish interiors throughout. There is a huge selection of food and drink options and we experienced fantastic service. We went on a Tuesday evening which was nice and quiet but would suggest booking in advance for more busier periods. There is a large bar area with cosy seating around a fireplace, for those who just want a quiet drink or a coffee catch up with friends. It’s the kind of pub that you could happily visit at any time of day or night and a great option to host many an occasion.

Value for money:
It is slightly more dear than your standard local but then again you get more for your money and it is what you would expect from a ‘premium’ pub. Their festive menus have packages which make it a better value. Choose three courses for £27.95, Four courses from the indulgent menu at £34.95, or pay an extra £15 to upgrade to a five-course menu with a glass of Moet & Chandon on arrival, rustic breads and olives and a choice of premium dishes and a cocktail of choice, which, for a special occasion I personally don’t think is bad.

Setting the scene:

Situated in the famously affluent area of Four Oaks in Sutton one would have high expectations and they did not disappoint. Think classy and full of character, yet hip and highly instagramable at the same time with floral walls, neon lights and fabulous golds and greens throughout. Perfect for a family meal, work night out or sophisticated couples’ drinks. Cosy in the cold months, they also have a fabulous courtyard for al fresco dining for those summer days.

The menu:
We sampled the new festive menu, launched for the Christmas and new year period alongside their standard menu. Starters included Seared Scallops, Baked Camembert and Smoked Salmon. The mains feature a classic Turkey dinner (albeit served with a honey and mustard duvet and pork and clementine stuffing) and a Dirty Cheeseburger for those who don’t wish to swerve too far off the beaten track. I opted for the pork belly and pig cheek, very unusual for me and highly recommended. Finish your meal with one of their mouth-watering deserts, from a classic Christmas pudding, indulgent chocolate brownie or blackcurrent mousse to name a few. Upgrade to their indulgent menu which ends with delectable truffles. Their menu also has well thought out vegan options throughout, so there really is something for everyone.

I was particularly impressed with their festive drinks menu that they had on offer. On top of their already extensive drinks selection they had festive porn star martinis, and Sipsmith bramble royalle, both of which I can confirm, were beautiful.

Merry Christmas!
