All About Nell

I’m Ellen, Nell for short. I’m a born southerner but Leeds captured my heart 10 years ago and now I’m proud Yorkshire lass.

I love to explore my city like a tourist visiting for the first time, eagerly hunting out unique spots that I may have missed before. My favourite place in Leeds? Kirkgate Market for fabulous produce, stunning architecture, a rich history and the most wonderful people.

I’m passionate about supporting local, independent businesses, and I’ve managed to create my own business that does just that: Leeds Food Tours. If you want to eat your way around Leeds with someone who has tried it all, I’m your girl!

When I’m not leisurely wandering around my home city, I love to travel. I have a particular fondness for Eastern Europe, especially in the winter when I can explore snowy streets before warming up on dumplings and hot wine. Having said that, a glass of cold white wine somewhere sunny works for me too!

10 Random Facts About Me

  1. I’m passionate about travel and I’m at my happiest on a European city break. Last year I spent three weeks travelling from Istanbul to Venice by train and bus via Sofia, Belgrade, Zagreb and Ljubljana and it was my all-time favourite holiday.
  2. I also love hiking and go walking for a week or two each year with my dad. Sometimes we stay in the UK, or sometimes we’ll go further afield to climb glaciers in the Alps or work on our tans in the Corsican mountains.
  3. I’m obsessed with food, I’ve even created a business out of my love of restaurants! My favourite food is sushi – I could eat it day and night and never get bored.
  4. I’m allergic to avocados (but I don’t like them anyway)
  5. I’ve never tried a Pot Noodle
  6. In 2019 I left my job in a marketing agency to set up my own business running food tours in Leeds. Little did I know that five months later a pandemic would shut all the restaurants.
  7. I’ve watched Gossip Girl four times all the way through, and I’m always team Blair.
  8. I live by the philosophical teachings of Winnie the Pooh: “A day without a friend is like a pot without a single drop of honey left inside”; “Always watch where you are going. Otherwise, you may step on a piece of the Forest that was left out by mistake”; Doing nothing often leads to the very best of something” and of course, “What could be more important than a little something to eat?”
  9. My babysitter took me to a Westlife concert when I was nine years old and I have been head-over-heels in love with them since. Last year I saw them in Leeds and was in the third row, which was the best day of my life.
  10. I have a degree in Criminology, and thought I’d grow up to be a detective! I actually decided on this degree with my mum whilst we were watching Crimewatch and drooling over presenter Rav.
