My Favourite Restaurants Taking Part In The Eat Out To Help Out Scheme In Essex

By Katie Byrne – 14th August 2020
RECOMMENDATION | Billy Bob’s Parlour & Diner – The Yorkshire Dales 89

With the Government’s Eat Out To Help Out scheme being enjoyed by diners across the country, there’s still time for you to get involved if you haven’t yet had a chance to make the most of the offer.

What is Eat Out to Help Out?

The initiative – which is running until 31 August 2020 – is offering diners a half-price saving when they eat out at restaurants, cafés or pubs.

Customers can enjoy 50% off food and non-alcoholic drinks when they book a table on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout August. (With up to a maximum of a £10 discount per person.) Alcoholic drinks and service charges are not included.

25 places to consider if you want to try the Eat Out To Help Out scheme

Whilst I haven’t been to all of the places on the list below, I have heard great things about them.

As we all know, the many establishments across the country that are taking part in the scheme are currently working hard to get back on to their feet after the impact of COVID-19. In short, now’s the perfect time to show your support, whether it’s for your favourite local or somewhere a little further afield. So in no particular order…

Restaurants

Greyfriars, Colchester – a sophisticated menu and gorgeous views.

Bellapais, Colchester – incredible Greek food served up with a great atmosphere.

Wivenhoe House Hotel, Colchester – a mouthwatering menu and 5* service.

Moto Pizza, Chelmsford – anyone for bottomless pizza? (Answer: yes🍕.)

The Old Siege House, Colchester – decadent dining in a stunning historic setting.

The Barn Brasserie, Great Tey – enjoy a touch of luxury with the Barn’s drool-inducing menu (Wednesdays only for the scheme).

Le Talbooth, Dedham – check-in for endless decadence… Just remember to save space for the truffles! (Read my review of the restaurant here.)

The Blue Boar Deli, Romford – breakfasts, smoothies and excellent sandwiches.

North Hill Noodle Bar, Colchester – my recommendation? Their ridiculously delicious XO Noodles.

The Blue Anchor, Feering – exquisite pub grub in a beautiful setting.

Bambu, Colchester – I haven’t visited Bambu just yet but I’m reliably informed that this Vietmanese restaurant is incredible.

Zorba The Greek, Chelmsford – Greek cuisine in a stunningly decorated venue.

Pubs & Bars

Three Wise Monkeys, Colchester – check out the gin bar… And the mac ‘n’ cheese.

Mimosa, Colchester – cool vibes and an impressive wine list.

The Essex Arms, Brentwood – live music, quiz nights and more, with an excellent menu to match.

Crofters Wine Bar, Witham – incredible wine selection and everything from pie’n’mash to shandy battered halloumi on the menu.

The Half Butt Inn, Colchester – offers something for everyone, including the kids!

The Three Colts, Buckhurst Hill – a traditional country-vibe pub, with a gorgeous beer garden.

Cafes & Tea Rooms

Dice & A Slice, Colchester – play boardgames whilst sipping a cuppa. What’s not to love?

Barnplants, Colchester – shop plants and homeware before diving into Barnplants’ delicious menu: we’re talking slabs of cake, cooked breakfasts and more.

The Novel Coffee Shop, Southend – supporting Southend Mencap, you can enjoy a relaxing cuppa whilst also browsing a huge range of donated books, DVDs and more.

The Brentwood Kitchen, Brentwood – cakes, milkshakes, brunch and so much more.

Tymperleys, Colchester – because an excellent cappuccino is best served against a stunning historical backdrop, no?

Perrywood, Tiptree – plants and cake, all in one joyful setting.

Tiptree Tea Room, Chelmsford – scones, jam and the perfect cuppa.

And these are just SOME of the amazing places across the county that are taking part in the scheme. There are so many more! (You can find them via the government website.) If I’ve missed out your favourite, let me know over on Instagram – I’d love to check it out.

P.S. Make sure you book in advance if you’re interested in visiting any of the above, as I know that a lot of them have been manic – happy dining!
