Dinner with a difference – on the tube

By Hannah, part of Girl About London – 14th September 2020
What I loved about SupperClub.tube for dinner:

Something different for date night!

Worth getting an Uber for?

Oh yes!

The best boozy train ride you’ve ever had!

Value for money:

Dinner, wine, and the Victoria Line. On Saturday I enjoyed the most romantic but utterly quirky night at supperclub.tube in Walthamstow. I never thought I’d use the words ‘romantic’ and ‘the tube’ in the same review – but here we are! This tube is like no other you’ve been on in your life. It’s everything we don’t expect on our commute home. It’s spotless, fine dining, great music, and top-notch service. Plus, everything is on time. Now THAT is how I want to spend every journey on the tube from now on.

As you arrive at Walthamstow Pumphouse museum you enter the grounds that hold the supperclub.tube. And it is what you expect. A Victoria Line carriage that has been planted in the middle of East London. It is completely different from anywhere I’ve ever eaten before. As we hopped on the train we were shown to our booth. We enjoyed one of the private booths for 2 which boasted two traditional long Victoria Line seats and a candlelit table in the middle.

We were asked upon arrival whether we fancied a welcome drink. I don’t need to tell you what my answer was, you already know. Two minutes later I had a glass of Prosecco in hand whilst my partner enjoyed a Negroni. The speediest service ever! We settled in for around half an hour and took some photos. The venue was great for Instagram – photo opportunities everywhere! When everyone had arrived on board we were greeted by the chef who talked us through the menu. It was a Columbian/Mexican inspired menu – I was buzzing! I opted for the vegan option and my partner enjoyed the classic menu. From then on the plates just kept coming. We enjoyed six courses throughout the evening and they were all INCREDIBLE. I can honestly say it was fantastic.

I feel like a lot of the time these kinds of places look great on Instagram but don’t live up to the hype. This place went above and beyond expectations. We enjoyed all the dishes but our favourite dish had to be the Blue Corn Tostadas. Mine was with Guacamole, Spicy Hibiscus Flowers & Queso Fresco. James enjoyed his with Trout Marinated with Lime & Chilli & Tamarillo Dressing. Insane. The vegan menu was exceptional and the chef even came over after to talk it through with me. She is so passionate and you can tell she cares so much about her food. She wanted to make sure the vegan/vegetarian menu was just as good as the classic menu, and it really was.

Throughout the night we enjoyed 2 bottles of 2018 Definition Grüner Veltliner at an extremely reasonable £21 per bottle. We were there for around 3 and a half hours in total, but it flew by! We had so much fun, we didn’t want to leave.

I’m also happy to say that supperclub.tube is taking all health and safety matters very seriously following the reopening after lockdown. There are plastic boards up between each table and all staff were wearing face coverings at all times.

Every season the menu changes, so if it doesn’t tickle your fancy this season then stay tuned for Winter! We will definitely be returning.
