3 Great places to dine alfresco in North Yorkshire

By Natalie Johnson – 16th June 2020

How much have we all missed dining out? I know I certainly have!

Don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely loved cooking with the family over the past 3 months, but not being able to just pop out for coffee and cake has been greatly missed in our house. I will not take a good barista coffee for granted again! So, in hearing about the new Alfresco dining plans coming into play very soon, we are extremely excited at the thought!

Here are 3 Great places to dine alfresco in North Yorkshire.

Restaurants with lovely outdoor space, that will bring you a memorable alfresco dining experience.

Harome, Near Helmsley YO62 5JG

If you are looking for the idyllic Yorkshire country setting, then look no further. This once converted blacksmith’s shop and village shop with barns is beautiful.

There is an attractive courtyard to dine in as well as a well kept lawned area, which overlooks the duck pond in the pretty village of Harome. It really is picture-perfect.

Winner of the Welcome to Yorkshire’s White Rose Awards “Best Restaurant 2017”, it is not hard to see why. Serving exquisite British fare, with exciting taste and flavour combinations.

The menu selection is second to non from fine dining to grazing, with excellent vegetarian choices. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Until then, I will have to dream of dining in the beautiful grounds of The Pheasant, soaking up the sun in blissful North Yorkshire!

The Black Bull is a super destination village Inn, not far from the A1.

It is renowned for its service and the use of seasonal produce sourced locally from suppliers from the North of England, and its very own kitchen garden at Mount St John.

They have a super menu at the Black Bull, and you can see why they are known for their delicious seafood dishes! There is something for everyone from a versatile children’s menu to sandwiches and snacks, but I have got to say the a la carte menu is extra special.

There is a spacious modern terrace to dine in with a view of the Moulton black bull himself, centre stage.

Nidderdale, AONB, Ramsgill-in Pateley Bridge, Harrogate HG3 5RL

This welcoming and cosy converted 18th-century coaching house, now a stunning restaurant with rooms oozes English traditional charm. It is situated in the heart of the Nidderdale Valley in the village of Ramsgill close to the scenic Gouthwaite reservoir.

The Yorke Arms has everything you are looking for when it comes to that delightful dining experience. From the elegant restaurant to the relaxed Little dining room and snug, you would most definitely want to return here.

I would love to try The Onion, no, not what you eat, but a bespoke onion skin, situated in the enchanting vegetable garden. It’s such a unique and fabulous outdoor space, for up to ten people and warmed by a central fire pit, sounds awesome, right?! There is also an attractive courtyard terrace, set in a little walled garden, which is just dreamy.

There is such a marvelous choice on all menus at The Yorke Arms, thanks to Frances Atkins who was one of very few female Michelin Starred Chefs in the UK. Fresh, seasonal, bursting with flavour and sourced from their very own Kitchen-garden. It is no wonder this venue is in my top 5 places to dine alfresco in North Yorkshire.

I’m ready when you are!
