GIRL ABOUT SURREY REVIEW| A sublime outdoors / indoors dining experience

Rooftop igloos at Coppa Club, Cobham

By Sara Hardy– 13th December 2020

I was honoured to receive an invitation to be one of the first to review the brand new Coppa Club in Cobham yesterday, a mere three days after its long-anticipated opening. This is the seventh branch in this outstanding group of restaurants famed for its enchanting igloos beside the Thames at Tower Bridge. Its Brighton and now Cobham branches can also call these exclusive igloos home. There are four other successful riverside locations in Sonning-on-Thames, Henley-on-Thames, Maidenhead and Streatley-on-Thames all offering upscale modern British European dining.

The Cobham restaurant is spread over two floors. The sophisticated ground floor restaurant has been styled with contemporary interiors by Fox and Church. Oozing an elegant and casual feel, tables are located in different areas offering greater intimacy and subtle social distancing. The restaurant is a self-proclaimed work to play location offering breakfast, brunch, lunch, cocktails, intimate dinners and private dining. The stylish lounge areas have been carefully considered to offer practical workspaces with power sockets and super-fast wifi; perfect for those working from home looking for a change of scenery. It would be the ideal location to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee and read the paper beside any of the open fireplaces.

Worth paying a babysitter?

Absolutely! We will be going back at the earliest opportunity either as a couple or with friends, although the restaurant is entirely family friendly too as we experienced.

Value for money: 8 out of 10

The experience at Coppa Club both in the restaurant and the igloos is exceptional. The quality of the food is great and most main courses are under £20.

We were given a warm welcome by the maître d’ and shown to a comfortable seating area beside the fire where our children were offered colouring packs. After a very short wait, we were accompanied to the first floor where we discovered a breath-taking rooftop adorned with palm trees and foliage, and multiple seating areas covered by oversized parasols.

Tables are centred around a huge glass atrium which shares its warm ambient glow from the restaurant below; a short walk across the decking will take you to Coppa Club’s five glorious signature igloos. Leave the cold air behind you and feel the welcoming warmth of your own private dining experience. Each igloo offers exclusive outdoors / indoors all-day dining regardless of the weather with an individually controlled heating and music system. The cosy interiors inspired by French vineyards, together with the sleek modern exterior lighting have created this unique and sublimely sophisticated ambience. To experience the buzz of the restaurant and feel relaxed in the knowledge that the excitement of our children would be contained within the soundproof confines of the igloo is a wonderful dining experience like no other. Please note that the igloos are classed as indoor-dining so restrictions still apply.

The team at Coppa Club are completely new although you wouldn’t know it. They were exceptionally welcoming to us and particularly our young children who were offered special “Christmas water” (which thrilled them hugely) and extra pizza toppings off menu were no problem. Simon, the upper floor manager and Anya, our waitress, introduced themselves and far exceeded their duties to ensure we had everything we needed. It is hugely evident that every member of the team is very happy to be there and delighted that this high-quality establishment is finally open.

The children chose pizzas which we felt compelled to try (they were excellent!). I chose prawns followed by salmon, both of which were full of flavour and well presented; the salmon was particularly moist. The vegetable sides were cooked to perfection and arrived at our igloo perfectly hot.

All things considered, the igloos really are perfect for everyone and any occasion; a romantic date night, an instagramable night with the girls, or a relaxed family meal. Get organised and book ahead! The igloos are now booked until February, but sign up for the Coppa Club newsletter for the latest release dates.
