Pumpkins… once as exotic as a coconut, now littering fields across the UK. A ubiquitous symbol of Halloween, and also it seems, an opportunity for farmers across the land to cash in. In fairness through, there is something quite fun and rather rustic about dredging through a muddy field with a wheelbarrow looking for the perfect pumpkin.

As I sat on the sprawling lawn, my one-year-old daughter squealing with delight as she rolled down the steep grass verge, my father in law nodding off in the heat from the sun on what was one of the UK’s few glorious days, my mind cast back to when I was a toddler and the many fond memories I had here in these Victorian-style grounds of Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

REVIEW | The Deep – family fun at one of the UK’s largest aquariums

We had such high expectations of The Deep. So many people have given us glowing reviews, I did wonder if the reality would disappoint. We had intended to visit during our last family holiday where we had stayed in a cottage near Hornsea. KID-FRIENDLY WALK | Carsington Water – Derbyshire

Carsington Water is one of my favourite places to walk. The circular walk is about eight miles long and takes roughly two to three hours (not including time at the pub en route!) so might be a bit much for little legs nor is it entirely pram/pushchair friendly. However, there are plenty of other walks that can be done from the same starting point, which would be suitable for buggies and little legs.
