RECOMMENDATION | Brunch at The Kitchen at Manor House Lindley in Huddersfield

Tucked away behind a pretty average high street in Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, concealed by a high wall of foliage is a beautiful Georgian Manor House – The Manor House at Lindley. Iron gates lead into a sweeping driveway and a fully functioning fountain takes centre stage slap bang in the middle of it, surrounded by perfectly pruned topiary. It all feels rather grand and a bit too indulgent for a Thursday brunch date with Girl About Yorkshire – Emma. The type of venue that surely comes with a hefty bill at the end of it all…How wrong was I?

REVIEW | Locksley Distillery Gin School – If you love gin you MUST to do this!

“THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!” my friend Kat yelled to me over the sound of a gently bubbling still with a massive gin grin on her face. For me, it probably doesn’t quite trump my wedding day or the birth of my babies, but it’s not far off! We became master mixologists, creating our own gin recipes before distilling 'Madam Geneva' in our own miniature stills.

RECOMMENDATION | Darkhorse Stratford, East Village – East London

Hidden in the heart of the East Village, part of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and just a stones throw from Stratford station, are a handful of restaurants and bars. And right in the middle is Darkhorse bar and restaurant. It’s described on their website as a ‘modern European restaurant with Italian and Spanish influenced food wrapped in a British attitude’.

REVIEW |The Garden Secret Spa at Ringwood Hall Hotel & Spa, Chesterfield

I love a spa. I love everything about it: the unashamed decadence of spending time doing very little other than unwinding, I love the treatments and most of all I love lounging about in a dressing gown. I would happily travel a few hours to a decent spa. But let’s face it, it’s better to spend as much time RELAXING as possible (rather than schlepping up and down a motorway) so when Ringwood Hall Hotel opened a luxe looking spa practically on my doorstep it was very much on my Girl About radar.

RECOMMENDATION: The Hyndland Fox – one of my favourite places for lunch in Glasgow’s West End

This one’s been on the list for me for a while as every time I drive past, I’d longingly look on at brunchers and lunchers sitting outside in the little curb-side suntrap in the heart of Glasgow’s West End. Hyndland is a plush area with a very local feel. Just a stone’s throw from the real hustle and bustle of the West End, this is local 'West End living' area.

RECOMMENDATION | A Blooming Great Day at Birmingham Botanical Gardens

As I sat on the sprawling lawn, my one-year-old daughter squealing with delight as she rolled down the steep grass verge, my father in law nodding off in the heat from the sun on what was one of the UK’s few glorious days, my mind cast back to when I was a toddler and the many fond memories I had here in these Victorian-style grounds of Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

RECOMMENDATION | Roof East Stratford – Shouting “Summer!” From The Rooftops

Summer, before I moved to London, would have been about BBQ’s and beer gardens. But almost five years after moving ‘darn sarf’ (imagine my worst cockney accent here) I see sunshine and think: ‘rooftop bar’. Turns out so does half the population in London. It’s fair to say I’ve frequented quite a few. In The City, if you get there at the right time, you can watch the sunset over St Paul’s at Maddison’s, or at The Avery in Finsbury Square, you can get great cityscape views whilst sipping on a chilled glass of Sauvignon and eating Padrón peppers (my fave).
