REVIEW | The Devonshire Arms Inn at Beeley – The Peak District

My mantra has always been that a hotel room is a means to an end. It’s a bed that you need after visiting somewhere far more interesting than the four walls where you sleep. How can a hotel room really be much different from another? Oh, how wrong I was. The Devonshire Arms at Beeley, hands down, the nicest hotel room I have ever had the pleasure to stay in. Period.

REVIEW | York’s Chocolate Story

As a born and bred York lass, with a couple of summers spent hand packing Dairy Milk chocolates into little plastic trays, you’d think I would know a thing or two about the city’s heritage in chocolate. Weirdly not. The only thing I can tell you is to never eat a shed load of orange creams in a sweaty hot factory when the air con has failed. It doesn’t do you any good.

REVIEW | Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa – Sheffield

Ye Olde Bell must have been listening to my prayers, because it felt like I had literally won the golden ticket when they got in touch inviting me for a kid-free spa weekend. Jaded by pregnancy and the whirlwind of baby twins, I had literally been waiting for a weekend like this for a what seems a lifetime. Relaxation, pamper, food, wine and a good nights’ sleep. I couldn’t help but set high expectations for what Ye Olde Bell was going to offer me.

REVIEW | The Lost & Found Bar & Restaurant, Sheffield

Ecclesall Road has been my stomping ground for over a decade, and although my years of whittling most of my money on nights out, takeaway and clothes have long gone, I do keep my eye and heart close to the retailers that come and (sadly) go. So when I saw one of the most beautiful buildings, previously the Pointing Dog, on the street being renovated into the Lost & Found, I was intrigued to find out more.

REVIEW | Christmas at Chatsworth House, Derbyshire

When I was invited to visit Christmas at Chatsworth House I was genuinely over the moon. With the big change in family dynamics this year (jumping from a family of three to five), I really wanted to do something special for Emily. Recently turning four, she’s at the age to get super excited about Christmas, so doing something memorable to kick-start our festive celebrations was important to me.

REVIEW | Bank House Bar, Sheffield

I peeled my threenager off my limb and avoided answering my husband’s concerns of who is doing the 3am feed, because for the first time this year I was going out on a Friday night – to the official opening of Bank House in Hathersage. Dress and lipstick on, I jumped into my Fun-Time-Friday-friend’s car and drove off into the sunset. Literally.

RECOMMENDATION | JÖRO, Sheffield – 12 Course Heaven

Diagnosed by the doctor as “too fat to fly”, my husband and daughter jetted off for a week with the in-laws in France, leaving me with a week completely void in my calendar to do whatever I pleased. Sounds great, but the reality was I was heavily pregnant with twins, so reliving my youth in the Leadmill was out of the question…. queue best mate visiting for what we intended to be a weekend of indulgence.
