Girl About Travel Club lockdown blog writing competition

Calling all young budding bloggers and junior journalists – we are giving you the opportunity to get published in a travel magazine AND win an amazing prize!

You’ve probably got tons of holiday memories, but which is your best? Could you pen a travel blog article based on your favourite memory?

You’ll be judged on the title of your blog, narrative, use of language and the supporting assets – this could a photo or an illustration – or both!

The competition is open to two age groups – 5 years to 9 years, and 10 years to 13 years.

All entries to be submitted online in The Girl About Travel Club – currently FREE to join. The Girl About Travel Club is an all-female club for women who love to travel and who want to be empowered to plan and book incredible holidays that can’t be Googled, we ask, where possible, if a female parent/guardian can join the club and upload their child’s work.

THE RULES

 

All entries to be submitted online in The Girl About Travel Clubcurrently FREE to join. The Girl About Travel Club is an all-female club for women who love to travel and who want to be empowered to plan and book incredible holidays that can’t be Googled, we ask, where possible, if a female parent/guardian can join the club and upload their child’s work.

One entry per child. Please make sure it’s all your own work.

Article should be based on your best holiday memory, suitable for reading by a general audience.

Articles should be longer than 350 words (age group 5 – 9) and 750 words (age group 10 – 13)

Articles should include corresponding photo and/or illustrations

Entries open to UK residents only.

Entries will be judged on the following criteria:

– Article title
– Narrative
– Language
– Supporting Assets

 

How are winners chosen?

The editor of Charitable Travel magazine – Laura Gelder, and Girl About’s travel editor Rebecca Miles will select their favourite articles. If they are struggling to choose, we might run a poll on our Facebook page, so follow that for updates.

Entries to be submitted online in The Girl About Travel Club. The Girl About Travel Club is an all-female club for women therefore we ask, where possible, if a female parent/guardian can sign up to join the club and upload the child’s work. You must include the child’s first name and age.

Terms & Conditions:

The competition is organised by the Girl About with support from Charitable Travel

Entry to this competition is open to persons who will be aged between 5 and 13 years on the 15th February 2021 who are full time residents of the UK (including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) except the children or close relatives of employees of Girl About, Charitable Travel, or the children or close relatives of any person closely connected with the competition. However it is open to Girl About Blog Squad Ambassadors and their children.

Entries should be submitted, where possible by an adult who identifies as female on behalf of the child; this adult must have parental permission. This adult may be asked, with parental permission, to provide proof of age, identity and eligibility. Entry will be in two age categories – ages 5 to 9 years (on 10th February 2021) and 10 to 13 years (on 10th February 2021)

Entrants must write a fact-based article. Articles should be longer than 350 words (age group 5 – 9) and 750 words (age group 10 – 13). Entry is via an online entry in The Girl About Travel Club. The responsible adult submitting the story on behalf of the entrant, will be asked to provide the entrant’s name, gender, region and their age and ensure that they have parental permission to do so.

The submitter must enter the child’s story within the competition group within the Travel Club. In order to access The Girl About Travel Club the responsible adult must sign up for The Girl About Travel Club (free to join) and agree to the terms and condition and privacy policy.

All articles should be submitted in English.

Articles should be submitted as a PDF with any photos and/or illustrations included embedded into the PDF. Articles should be filed within a Document within the Travel Club and the entrant’s name and age only. As the articles will be published it is important that entrants do not include any personal details about themselves other than their name and age.

Entries can only be accepted online; postal entries or entries sent over email will not be read or considered.

Entry opens on Monday 15th February 2021 at 08:00am. Entry closes on Sunday 7th March 2021 at 20:00. Submissions received outside of this time frame will not, under any circumstances be considered, so Girl About advises users not to wait until the last minute to submit entries. Girl About cannot be held to account if the website runs slowly.

Entrants can only enter individually. Only one entry per person is permitted and the article must be wholly written by the entrant only; articles cannot be written by more than one person. If more than one entry is submitted, only the entrant’s first submission will be considered.

Entries must be an account of real past events relating to memories from a holiday. If entrants are unclear on whether the content of an article contradicts these Rules, they may email the competition administrators at support@girlabout.co.uk.

Entries cannot be returned so please remember to retain a copy. Unsuccessful entrants will be contacted in respect of their entry but no feedback on any entry will be provided.

All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. Girl About accepts no responsibility if entrants ignore these Rules and the entrant’s parent or guardian agrees to indemnify Girl About against any claim by any third party from any breach of these Rules.

Entries must not contain defamatory, obscene, offensive, or any other unsuitable material; Girl About reserves the right to disqualify entries containing such matter. Entries must be suitable to published or used online by Girl About and Charitable Travel for audiences of all ages, but in particular for a child audience. If the story has troubling content Girl About may if required take advice from the NSPCC, and may refer the Troubling Content to the relevant authorities.

Entrants retain the copyright in their entries but their parent or guardian grants Girl About perpetual non-exclusive royalty-free licence to publish and post the entry online and on any other platforms yet to be envisaged. This licence will be deemed to include all the necessary rights and permissions to enable such use by Girl About, to fulfil the prizes and to complete the administration of this competition.

By submitting an article the entrant’s parent or guardian agrees that Girl About may at its sole discretion edit, adapt, abridge or translate the entry for the purposes listed in clause 14 above.

Entrants agree that Girl About may publish the articles on their website.

In the event that the entry is published online or in print, for the avoidance of doubt, this will not be part of, or influence in any way, the judging process. Only the story title, entrant’s name and age will be published with an entry.

– Enjoyment

The competition will be judged by Girl About’s Travel Editor – Rebecca Miles, and Charitable Travel Magazine’s Editor Laura Gerder.

Prizes will be awarded to the winners in each age category: The winner in the age 5-9 category will win a The Terrific Ten: Mega-Massive Box Set from bestselling author David Walliams and their article will be published on www.girlabout.co.uk. The winner in the age 10-13 category will win The a Let’s Explore The Oceans Virtual Reality Experience and their article will be published in April’s edition (published on 30th April 2021) of The Charitable Travel Magazine

The parents or guardians of the successful entrants will be contacted by a member of the Girl About Team by Friday 26th March 2021; further proof of age, identity and eligibility may be requested at this stage.

Girl About’s decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.

Girl About reserves the right to disqualify any entry which breaches any of these Rules, brings Girl About into disrepute or to withhold a prize if in its opinion entries do not reach the required standard.

Girl About reserves the right to amend these Rules or cancel this competition at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise outside of its control.

Girl About, its sub-contractors, subsidiaries, agencies and/or any other organisation associated with this competition cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem with any server, Internet access, system or otherwise which may result in any entry being lost or not properly registered or recorded. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt.
