A New Year And A North Yorkshire Staycation!

By Natalie Johnson – 10th December 2020
RECOMMENDATION | Billy Bob’s Parlour & Diner – The Yorkshire Dales 180

North Yorkshire is the perfect place for your UK staycation. This stunning county has the right mix of coast and countryside for you to enjoy.

I could have put together so many fabulous overnight stays in my hometown but I thought I’d pick the coast this time because I just love Whitby and Robin Hood’s bay and I’m sure you will too.

Day 1

When you arrive:

The Historic Victoria Hotel, I reckon has one of the best views of Robin Hood’s Bay and is a great place to start.

Choose between family, double or twin rooms, just drop your bags off and go and explore this pretty, picture-postcard village. You can book bed and breakfast only and venture further afield for the rest of the day or choose to have drinks and your evening meal in their fine dining restaurant. www.victoriarhb.com

Robin hoods Bay is a quaint, little fishing village on the Jurassic coast in the North York Moors National Park, 6 miles from Whitby and 15 miles from Scarborough. It’s on the Cleveland Way national trail and is also the endpoint of Wainwright’s Coast to Coast route, so as you can imagine the walks here are breathtaking.

Have a go at fossil hunting on the beach, It’s open all year round and is the perfect way to blow those 2020 cobwebs away!

Lunch:

I don’t know about you but fish and chips for lunch would absolutely be on the cards and I have to say Fish Box is delicious. It’s a takeaway but has seating inside if the weather isn’t on your side. www.fishboxwhitby.co.uk/visit-us-robin-hoods-bay-2

If you fancy more of a restaurant feel then Bramblewick Fish and Grill really will do the trick. The seasonal menus are fantastic and there is something for everyone. www.bramblewick.co.uk

Afternoon:

I would recommend the quick drive over to Whitby to see what this special little town has to offer.

A stroll along the harbour, the 199 steps, and a walk round Whitby abbey is a must.

There are also some great little independent shops to have a good mooch around too.

Have a look at my 48hrs in North Yorkshire, where we spend a day enjoying Whitby’s wonderful heritage.

Evening:

The Blitz in Whitby is the place to go, for sure! This quirky tearoom, tapas bar, and restaurant will transport you back to the fabulous forty’s with its charming ambiance, tasty food, and flavoursome array of cocktails. I’d be quite happy to spend the rest of the evening here. www.theblitzwhitby.co.uk

Day 2

After enjoying the Victoria Hotels tasty Yorkshire breakfast, a visit to Falling Foss Tea Garden is the perfect stop off before you head home.

This enchanting tea garden set in the grounds of Midge Hall, with its pretty little cottage and waterfall it’s a real beauty spot. There are some lovely walks and adventures to be had here and then why not grab a coffee and a hot sandwich or a cream tea in this idyllic spot. www.fallingfossteagarden.co.uk

If you fancy Sunday lunch –

The Star Inn The Habour starinntheharbour.co.u

The Granby www.thegranbyhotel.co.uk

All do a delicious Sunday roast!
