5 of the Best Places to get Incredible Cake in Kent

Now I don’t know if you call eating cake a hobby but I do and its certainly one of my favourites. I have spent much of my maternity (and the time since) finding different places in Kent to enjoy this hobby and I’d like to share some of them with you. All of the places I have chosen offer up great cakes (obviously) but each offers something a little different to your average bakery or cafe!

Italianate Glasshouse, Ramsgate

What first drew me to this place was the amazing setting itself. As the name suggests you can enjoy a hot drink, lunch or indeed a scrumptious slice of cake inside this beautiful Italianate glasshouse, erected in 1832. Only open during the summer months (weather dependent) you can sit inside or enjoy the view from the peaceful and tranquil gardens (but do be sure to check out the beautiful array of plants and cacti growing inside the glasshouse.)

Cakes are homemade and freshly baked, the menu changes regularly so check out the blackboard! Last time I visited I indulged in a cream tea and it was delicious!

As this is seasonal and based on the weather please do check their website and Facebook page for updates before visiting.

Macknade, Faversham

I only discovered this place when I became a mum and actually met one of my best mummy friends here! Macknades is a whole multitude of things; foodhall, cafe, delicatessen, butchers, florist etc and has a range of baby groups during the week. This is child friendly and offers a children’s menu.

I am never disappointed when I go to Macknades – there is always a huge selection baked fresh by local bakers and cake makers. So whatever you want, be it rich chocolate, victoria sponge, coffee or perhaps something a little different (last time I went I had a delicious cake with meringue icing) you won’t be disappointed! There always seems to be at least one vegan option too.

Seaside Cake Parlour Patisserie, Margate

All vegan and all delicious! Situated in the gorgeous Margate Old town this is the place on my list that I have been visiting the longest. I first ventured in there for a freakshake, my second visit being for afternoon tea – both were delicious! The Seaside Cake Parlour has now extended to two stores and also serves incredible vegan meals.

Each time I’ve been there has been an amazing array of gorgeous, beautifully decorated pastries and cakes, that you would not believe are vegan! Trust me, they taste as good as they look. I would definitely recommend booking in the afternoon tea.

The Hot Tin, Faversham

Another gorgeous setting! This time in a delightfully green, 1885 Victorian tin church. This is a music venue and cocktail bar by night, arts cafe by day! The Hot Tin offers a small selection of locally made cakes and pastries as well as some tempting homemade lunch options. Their coffee goes perfectly with the cakes and is from Micro Roastery in Canterbury. My little boy is also a big fan of the babycinos and if you’re with the kids its a great spot to head over to the park straight after!

Grain and Hearth, Whitstable

Have you tried a cruffin? If your answer is no then get yourself down to Grain and Hearth and try one of their amazing ones! Hidden off the high street of Whitstable is this amazing sourdough bakery serving up a vast array of pastries. You’ll be hard pushed to choose just one, I normally end up walking away with at least two! Whilst you can eat them in their quaint courtyard I prefer to take them away and enjoy them on the beach.
